Today I have just finished my "modern breast plate" or plate carrier.
The reason I call it a modern breast plate is that it doesn't cover the back (as I only have one steel plate for now).
Historically, where were a lot of breast plates that only covered the front and were strapped up in the back, traditionally work over maille. My modern take on this is inspired by this concept, as I wear the plate over a knife resistant vest.
My "modern maille", which I have sitting low to cover my stomach. This armour has a bunch of weak points that a skilled opponent could take advantage of, but I feel the edge it gives me is more then enough if I can perceive my threat before hand.
I have it set for the top to reach my collar bone and the bottom to sit right under my ribs/diaphragm. Looking at guides online, I am assuming this is where you want the plate to be. But feel free to correct me
This would definitely work against swords and arrows, to protect the organs

I made a Lamellar hachigane, forehead armour to protect against men strikes, which have a tendency to make a person's forhead blood to drip into the eyes and blind them.
I imagine it would be amazing against false edge cuts done in a 2 step tempo. Or even machete cuts
Just for the heck of it, I will point out that this is what I'm wearing in my profile pic

If you ever get around to plate armor, you might consider the Epic Armory RFB (Ready for Battle) breast plate. It's the one I'm wearing in my avatar pic. <------- I think it cost me like $66 plus shipping from Medieval Collectibles, and they are on the sale page at KOA for about the same. The darkened version is a little more. Mine fits so good (with a little bending of the sides) that I could wear it under a baggy t-shirt all day without it being noticed. I'm 5'-6" and about 170lbs. and got the large size. Easy to bend to get a custom fit and light enough you forget you're wearing it. Just a suggestion.... Yea I wanna get myself some plate armour too. I wouldn't mind having a few different kinds tbh. This current armour I call my budget batman suit haha

BTW...Your mask/helmet would look KILLER with a darkened mail coif over it. You can get a butted one on Amazon for *dirt-cheap*. Maybe not the best quality, but, hey.....
