Hi there everyone ,new to this forum so I might mess up .so here goes anyways ,I have what I believe to be an antique navaja knife .looking for information on this blade .if possible I would like to know if it is Spanish ,french or italian.and also how old it might be and the maker of possible.ibam at a loss and hoping someone might recognise the maker.thankyou
I just pulled the trigger on a Martinez Albainox Bandolera with a 16 cm blade from the Aceros de Hispania website. Hopefully, it's a reasonable representation of a navaja.

As far as historical accuracy, when I was looking for the above knives, the community at the time seemed to feel the Exposito brand was most faithful to antiques, but a lot of the antiques I've seen have been...rather poor-looking, at best, and nothing like the offerings from Exposito. I never did get around to buying an Exposito, but I believe it was their M106 I had been considering.
I still need to replace my J.J. Martinez, which has been in retirement probably three years now, because I'd rendered it un-sharpen-able via over-sharpening... Not because it needed it, but because I wasn't well-educated at the time of how to properly maintain a good knife edge.
My Martinez-Albainox is the 9cm bandolero, and it still rides along with me daily. Heck, it's in my fob pocket right now. I use it for everything I wouldn't use another knife for; scraping goo off shelves (retail resets, woo), prying (staples, tacks, etc), and any other nasty sort of chore that might leave a pretty knife less so. It's held on for a very long time. Not bad for 9 Euro (at the time, haven't looked lately), and has lasted me longer than many more expensive knives.

Did you get it yet?
Not yet. It's been en route for the last week. The last update I got had it leaving Spain through the Correos shipping service.

Thanks for the photos. Looks great making me want one more, but the effort and cost just to get on into the country discourages me. Is the band aid related to your new toy?

I paid about as much for shipping (España to Tejas) as I did the knife itself. I'm not sure why this style of knife isn't more commonly available. They are a very attractive style of folding knife.
The adhesive bandage is indeed do to the new toy. The ratcheting lock mechanism is going to take some getting used to, and it might need a breaking-in period before the knife and I are comfortable with each other. Everything is so new and tight that I have to use an unsafe amount of pressure to close the blade, and since the factory edge is shaving sharp it doesn't take much pressure to cut skin.

An honor to be "kissed" by your new pretty knife. She likes you.
Nice. Pretty much exactly my own knife, but twice the size.
I find holding the knife by the handle with the edge down and lifting the lever allows the blade to drop by its own weight enough that you can get it halfway closed before flipping it over and holding the back of the blade in one have and lifting the lever with the other to close the rest.
How many notches on the big one? My little one has six.
Edit: While not the method I've just described, as that's just what I've taken to doing in the years since, but here's a short video (several years old) of me opening and closing my navajas:
Makes me want to hurry up and buy another JJ Martinez. I miss that knife...

My CRKT M16 knife has gone missing (probably in a couch or drawer somewhere), so I need a new EDC knife. My requirements are as follows: 1. It needs to be a folder. Fixed is not an option. 2. Blade length is not critical, but <= 2.5" is actually helpful for reasons. Feel free to recommend stuff over this length, though. 3. It needs to be conducive to concealed pocket carry. A clip would be very good, but I'm not picky about tip up or tip down. 4. I would like something that can deploy rapidly under stress if I do my part. Does not need to be assisted open. 5. The locking system needs to be solid and pass the "smack the back on the table" test. 6. It cannot be overly expensive (> ~$50) in case I have to ditch it. miyabi mizu review Any recommendations would be tremendously appreciated. I am aware of how awesome centerline fixed blades are, but those are just not an option for my situation.

Odd thread to resurrect for this.
Perhaps start a new one?
In the meantime, there's not a lot out there under $50, and 2.5" is even tougher to find. Smallest I've ever owned might have been that small, and yeah, it was less than $50, but it was also a no-name thing I picked up in a tourist shop almost 20 years ago, and it eventually lost the pivot screw, somehow...

mrstabby: Mine gets pressed to the top as well, but that way the tip gets ground of, don't like that either. Unfortunately I'm an edge-perfectionist. Also one wrong move when unsheathing and the throat nicks the edge on either side.

AndiTheBarvarian: Perhaps I've got one from the batch for Matt Easton ?!?

AndiTheBarvarian: When I draw the saber it's automatically pressed with the spine to the scabbard so there's space for the edge to not touch the scabbard. When the false edge starts it's released but can be carefully draw completely without touching the scabbard.

AndiTheBarvarian: Too little gap for a needle, so also I see no way to get the glue in.
Mar 31, 2024 8:02:34 GMT
mrstabby: I was easily able to poke through the glue on all of my Windlass swords/daggers, then it just seems to wick in forever, it never was thick. I can't imagine how there isn't any dulling though, unless yours is less wide or the scabbard is bigger.

AndiTheBarvarian: There's not really an opening on mine, very good fit of guard and blade and some glue or epoxy in it. Since my scabbard doesn't dull the edge too I seem to be on the lucky side with Windlass this time.

mrstabby: Maybe it screams in pain now, but I like it..

mrstabby: PSA: Give your Windlass swords some superglue, they appreciate it. My 1796 drank 4g through the opening between guard and blade, now it rings much louder and vibrates much less.

mrstabby: What now, pulling a sword out of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? Intriguing!
Mar 29, 2024 12:49:08 GMT
AndiTheBarvarian: Dwayne Johnson disagrees!

rschuch: As anyone who's seen Excalibur knows, getting the sword INTO the rock isn't the problem, it's getting it back out again.

durinnmcfurren: Movie turned out better than it had any right to be considering how many times a blade was shoved into rock. Yes, even once would be too much, but it was way more than once.

Ramses1079: Yeah me too, which is a shame because he’s a good author. I guess that’s like when your favorite band releases a new album, and there’s always one or two tracks that you’re like “what were they thinking?”
