In this video, I did some initial cutting with the Hersir Viking Sword by Albion. With the longer grip length on the Hersir's type H hilt, my hand did not extend quite as far onto the pommel, but the method that I used to grip the hilt is the same as I used for the smaller grip on the Castle Keep Suontaka sword. The pommel is flat against the heel of my palm, helping to maintain edge alignment during the cuts. I was very impressed with the cutting performance of this sword and I am more convinced than ever that this is the correct way to grip these Viking era swords. Enjoy the video

That blade went through like they were butter.

Yes, the blade is an amazingly effective cutter. Those Mugen Dachi mats were soaked overnight and drained for a few minutes. As you can tell in the video, they were still fairly stiff. I couldn't help but smile after that last cut Albion really nailed the blade geometry on this sword.

Great cutting with a very nice sword. Regarding the gripping method for those hilts - after many trials and errors, I came to the same conclusion. It takes longer for some than others

So silky smooth, you make that sword sing. Love how it shears through the two mats so effortlessly with a single hand. Thanks for sharing the tip on gripping this style of sword; noted for when I eventually nab my first viking styled blade, which you inspired me to be more serious about testing out soon. Seriously great cuts!
