I was thinking... I obsess with swords but I understand very little about how they're made, so I was hoping to take a sword making. Does anyone know where I may take a class in the rockville area of Maryland, thanks.

It's not a very common thing, so expect to have to travel. Look up the Stagmer's, they are in Baltimore: www.BaltimoreKnife.com

There is a wealth of information online. There are many ways to go about making a sword. Off the top of my head you could probably categorise the main work by: Forging and Smithing - Shaping and Folding. Stock removal by hand CNC stock removal. Even from those a maker will often blend techniques. I use a milling machine for fullers. A Forge for bending and scrolling. But mostly grinding by hand. I'm sure you've read about my techniqes here. What style of swordmaking are you interested in?

Read a nice book. They are nice and cheap. You can also borrow them from a library.
