Well not happy so far, waiting a response back from Kult of Athena on a resolution, I got my package today and upon opening the box found the pommel of the sword partially rusted! I'm attaching pics right now for you guys to see. I haven't done much else with the sword until I hear word from KoA. It feels great in the hand, very lively to me at least.

Yeah, I've had problems with KoA quality control letting damaged or loose things through shipping. Hope you hear back soon.

I've been trying to update an order with them for like 1 1/2 months. Not sure what their current deal is.. like they haven't responded to 4 emails or my two voicemails.

This is absolutely terrible. I hope they sort it out for you. I've had issues with KOA when it comes to receiving damaged items before. I hope this isn't becoming a trend.

Well it looks fixable but it shouldnt reach you like that.
I wonder if this is due to poor packing or poor pre shipping checks?

You shouldn't be expected to fix something upon first receipt. That's just poor business practice.
That being said interesting to hear about the handling. It is a very nice looking sword and if it performs well it'd be a no brainer for it to compete with the H/T longsword in the budget longsword category.

The quality of the grip alone looks much better than most lower end pieces, at least to me. That rust is ridiculous though for something that was shipped out from KoA.

KOA set the industry standard for QC and CS. It'd be really a shame if that was becoming no longer the case. I hope you get some kind of satisfaction.

If they don't offer to pay for the return shipping, please let us know. I had an issue with a sword that had a crooked pommel and they tried to tell me it was just a little quirk because it's a handmade item. I had to pay for the return shipping myself, which I really disliked.

Hello Eric,
I am Matt and I work at Kult of Athena - that level of rusting in a transit is pretty aggressive and unacceptable. I work on our website content and not customer service so this is the first I have seen of that. I have notified our owner Ryan and he would like you to contact him directly at info@kultofathena.com - both to rectify your situation and so he can collect your observations since we will be doing an investigation into our processes to identify the point where this occurred.

theophilus736,
I am dismayed to hear you having such difficulty getting into contact with our customer service reps. I suspect messages are ending up in a spambox or something similar. Please contact me directly at matt@kultofathena.com and I will make sure your messages get into the right place during business hours tomorrow.

I remember, when ordering, shooting an email off and having Michelle call me within a couple of days. I was almost speechless when she said who she was as I have never experienced that kind of intentionality in customer service before. It was amazing. Perhaps its only fair that I should have included that in my original post. I will send you an email and look forward to the response.

I had an outstanding conversation with Ryan this evening and we came to a resolution that is very satisfactory and gave me a couple options on what I could do, I decided I would keep the sword because other then the little bit of rust on the pommel I like the way it feels and will do a more in depth review once I clean up the rust. I just gotta point out that Ryan & KoA staff themselves were very upset that I received the product like that and will be doing a full investigation to stop it from happening again. I want to thank Matt as well for bringing it to Ryan's attention as well. Thank you.

Please do give us a full review when you get a chance. I am definitely intrigued by this product line.

That's good to hear! And also awesome to see an employee of a company step up directly to deal with an issue. Next non antique purchase may just be from KoA then.

Rust is a funny thing. I clean my S&W revolvers at least once a month, regardless of whether they are shot or not. One day, as I got a (formerly) pristine Model 15-2 out of the safe, it had rust on the cylinder and frame. A $700 collectable instantly went to a $300 shooter. No other revolver was affected. It was in a silicon-infused gun sock and in a plastic hard case. The other S&W in the same case was fine. To this day, I do not know what happened. I am very neurotic about rust. Each gun is wiped down, oiled and lubed after each handling. It may well be the same, bizarre occurrence with your sword. It is not impossible for the pommel to have been fine when it left KOA, and somehow the pommel rusted in transit. Stranger things have happened.

Did you get the one with the narrow or the wider cross guard? And would you be willing to post more photos and do a little review of the sword?
