Make sure you ask to visit when he is doing a mythical forging run, as he touts doing things in a production line fashion.

I will have to do a considerable amount of research before going. There is no doubt about that.

Well, you could say the design was stolen from Peter Lyon and/or Weta Workshop, or whoever currently holds the copyrights, although I'm sure there are some distinguishing details that make it OK in the legal sense.

well, I pulled the trigger on this. took everything into consideration. I think it's better than some might think, despite whatever issues DSA has had in the past, and that's just it, isn't it. issues in the past. there's nothing to suggest, that I can see, those issues have continued. should the pommel and grip be pulled off the tang as I draw it for the first time, well that's on me and my bank acc'nt. all that been said is appreciated

Alrighty. Let us all know how it is now. Glad someone is pulling the trigger to see if DSA is back in quality.

I'm happy to see someone is giving them another chance. They would truly be an inferior business if they did not strive to improve on their qualities and deliver a better a product. It's awfully big of you to give them another chance. Remember that if anything goes wrong, they do have a warranty on their products and they are highly responsive to customer concerns. Please report to us when you receive it.

if they were an inferior business, I douibt DSA woulda been in business this long, especially after all that's been said when it happened. I might be big, but my bank accn't ain't . heard a lotta good about their warranty, from MR in particular. soon as I get it, ya'll'll have my impression. doubt there'll be any cutting impression; neighbors wouldn't understand hehe

I like both Albion and DSA. I own nothing from either company and nor have I ever handled a sword from either of them. I'm pretty quiet about my blade collection in my private life. It might be frowned upon by some of my friends and I think a few of you can relate.
That said, I think Albion is the premiere company when it comes to high end reproductions. They do their research, they are meticulous about getting the little things right and they consistently produce a product that is pristine in fit and form. It's hard to find a flaw in the company and the reviews from multiple people are glowing to say the least. I mean, they do have their flaws (modern smiting, generic designs, long wait times, etc.) but none of them affect the overall quality or performance of their blades. They are tough to beat.
DSA is one of the few companies that can compete with Albion, which is an achievement in and of itself. What I like about the DSA product is that it just looks elegant while still being functional. They also include a decent scabbard with their swords and daggers and at a lower price than that of Albion. The potential for a better "bang-for-your-buck" is definitely there.
It's a shame that they have been experiencing issues with their quality and performance because in many cases that is the number one thing buyers are looking for. The price point is much too high for it to be considered a wall hanger. So the people outraged over their recent failings is justified. They did say they are fixing their product and I hope that they do. I don't want to see them go under but I do want to see them genuinely fix the problem and ensure it does not repeat itself. You usually get one "pass" from a customer if they are feeling generous. It's almost never that you get two "passes" and if you get up to three... it's time to close up shop. I'm forgiving of their mistakes but at the same time I am watching closely to see how things have improved before I test the market with my own money.

If you want to be the guinea pig then go for it. It's a gamble as I mentioned earlier and sometimes gambles pay out big.
As far as cutting, you can still use your back yard. Just cut around sunrise and you shouldn't have much of an audience. That's how I do it. It's a great way to start the day.
