Hello, I have only just today, found out what this sword I own is. It is an East Timor Parang. I acquired it in the bottom of a box I got at a deceased estate auction a few years ago. I have only ever seen one other like it ( www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/east-timor-parang-sword-carved-484010347) and that was also today by a good person who showed me the link via facebook. has anyone else seen, or have similar examples that they may be able to post pictures of? I am trying to figure out exactly what condition this is in (good/bad/average) and how rare it may be, especially regarding its condition. thank you Steve

You want www.vikingsword.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=1 The Ethnographic Arms And Armor Forum. You'll want to join to ask questions, it'll take a while to get approved. Don't talk money over there, like what something is worth. They get very upset about it.

I guess an estimate for the insurance company would have been good, but it hasn't been too big an issue in the past. thank you Treeslicer

Until they decide you aren't a potential spammer, your posts will have to be approved. IMHO, the most knowledgeable people on the Net for S.E. Asian arms hang out there. You'll want the Ethnographic Weapons subforum.

I'm really interested in this sword now that I know more about it.

I see what you are saying, it does look very crocodile-esk. you could be right!
unfortunately I cannot contribute too much other than the initial post, but I really look forward to learning more about this. it seems a relatively rare piece for a very modest collection
