I'm a believer in judging TV and movies as standalone works, not letting them rely on their source books as crutches for poor writing. With that in mind, Nilfgard was bland and evil, the magic school was a poorly explained evil hogwarts, Geralt got knocked around silly-like in a bunch of monster fights like the Winchesters in Supernatural...
And the spinning thing is a shame, because that's an interesting bit of lore that wasn't explained in the series at all, and loads of non-witchers were spinning in the series.

That's probably Holg. Come on.

I'm not seeing it, if I do I'll be the first to point it out I did before.

Come on Pvsampson, Dandelion was honest with us right from the start by telling us who she was. If she was Holg why would he draw attention to himself by telling us that. I spotted Holg pretty quick when he snuck back in before. I'm not seeing it in Dandelion so lets give her the benefit of the doubt. If he/she slips up we'll spot it. Ok. I do not believe that is Dandelion. If I were to be banned then I would not be able to post here as I don't have someone in the home with another account. Yet,Holg can and does at his own free will, hiding through his partners account. His partner has allowed him to use that account,is this not against the rules? I must admit he has been behaving though and I am out of this conversation now as I have said my piece.

A girlfriend who just wants to post in the classifieds and thinks the sword hobby is silly, then suddenly starts posting on everything like a longtime enthusiast? Again... come on.

Well like I said, we shall see. I just don't think we should shoot first and ask questions after. Maybe Holg might sneak in on Dandelions account, that will be up to her to stop him. No one pushed Holg's button more than I did but so far no problems with Dandelion. Besides she actually said she liked their DSA Eindride which Holg would never have done. So lets hold off on the lynching party until we know for sure.

There never will be proof either way, and I don't really care if Holg tries to come back. It's entertaining. But I'd bet money it's a charade, and when Holg gets huffy at being called out you bet I will tell him he's not fooling me.
But if Dandelion wants to explain anything else that could possibly salvage the Witcher series, I'll read it.

OK, just how you like it. I will again try to do my very best to stay quiet besides the sales. Maybe it was a bad idea after all to make this account. It was clear Holger is not liked in here anymore, but i wasnt expecting so much (attention: googled!) spitefullness and malice. It feels like that. We wish everybody a happy christmas and nice holidays.

As a fan of the book series, the netflix series was, as is most things television today, passe at best. I felt that the lead actor's performance was compelling, and the nilfgard mage (fringilla I believe). The rest felt very forced for the most part, the fight sequences were fairly decent. Dandelion is right about the spinning in terms of the lore. Though not an expert by any measure. It doesn't feel like it could be the next Game of Thrones, the book series definitely didn't match up to the Song of Ice and Fire saga. If anything can get near to that it maybe the whole "blades" series books by Joe Abercrombie if HBO or another big player can make it up for TV. I find him as deep as GRRM without... hm... getting taken away with unimportant details? I like ASOIAF, but its sooo hard to read; GRRM's SciFi books are much more entertaining. Now, finally quiet.

You know what I'd dig? A Skyrim Netflix series. The possibilities are endless in terms of narrative. Prepackaged aesthetic.

Few quick thoughts (halfway through the season):
1.) Show's pretty good, but some growing pains. There are plenty of issues with writing, pacing, and the jumbled time-skipping "when the **** is this happening again" nature of the direction/writing is done pretty poorly. Skipping around without more tangible ques or explicit indicators (e.g. text of the year/date) makes keeping track of events difficult for those unfamiliar with the books. The fourth episode was kind of goofy: I am tempted to create a drinking game where one takes a drink every time the word "destiny" is said (again, issues with the writing). Overall, entertaining but needs a better script. The first three episodes were all good fun.
2.) Combat's fun. Captures the witcher's superhuman monster-oriented combat style. Not linear, focused on multi-directionality, and very fun to watch. Seeing Cavill do his own stunts makes it all the better. The striga "hunt" was pretty great.
3.) On the subject, Cavill makes a really good Geralt, and Jaskier/Dandelion is really on point. Like how they handled Ciri & Yennefer so far, Triss seems...different. Emyr seems well cast as well, from the brief look at him so far. The "evil Hogwarts" angle was interesting (funny to read that exact same moniker here, it's how I was referring to it as well), cool how they took the time to flesh out Yen's backstory (well, I guess literally and figuratively).
4.) A Skyrim series sounds kind of bad: the plot to that game wasn't very interesting. Now an Elder Scrolls series with that world, mythos and factions would be fantastic if done right. A Dark Brotherhood series by itself would be killer...or an underworld type show with thieves, assassins, daedra, vampires and their hunters...huh. Sounds like a goldmine, now that I think more on it.
Oh, and the snipes at Holger's girlfriend are in really poor taste. She and him share a LOT of hobbies (swords obviously, Witcher especially, think she's an even bigger fan actually), and some remarks made are rather rude and need to desist. I got significantly annoyed with some dynamics relating to similar notes of what's popped up on this thread and in combination with some other antics checked out of this forum almost completely for nearly half a year. Would prefer to pop in from time to time and not see this sort of juvenile b.s. please and thanks. If y'all like identity conspiracies, let's say my codename is Leontopodium shinanense

She said right up front that she was with Holg when she could have just joined without saying anything about him. So unless I see her hulking up and turning green I'll take her for her word.

A lot of people who find it super funny to play detective games; they dont even think of hurting the wrong person. Its bad manners even if it would be Holger "speaking" here. Especially some of the young members here seem to like it to provoke other people. Other people seem to be very reasonable. Whatever, its Christmas, have nice holidays you all.

I finally got around to finishing it yesterday. I really enjoyed it overall even if it’s clear the budget harmed it. As for the books vs ASOIAF, the Witcher saga is vastly superior. Better story, more likable characters, well developed world building that isn’t literally repainted history, and most importantly IT WAS FINISHED!!!
Yes, I went there🤪

OK, so I watched the first season. It's basically AD&D with a more confusing timeline. The plot was very difficult to follow and the tone oddly goofy. Yet I can't wait till the next season ;-) In that respect, it reminds me of the syndicated goofy fantasy shows of the 90s. It's a bit of a mess production-wise, but still lots of fun. Its heart is in the right place.

You know what I'd dig? A Skyrim Netflix series. The possibilities are endless in terms of narrative. Prepackaged aesthetic. But which Skyrim? Everyone plays a different game. The main vanilla plot is the least interesting part of it. Skyrim was a fantastic video game because it offered far more freedom than film or TV ever could. My Skyrim was custom modded. I ran around mother naked, using explosives to fish while sniping bandits. I mean *I* am open to making that experience into a TV show, but I don't think the world is ready for my vision. And how do you write a song about a naked alchemist archer who's on a quest to blow up all the fish?

I think they are improving with each episode which tells me season 2 may hit a decent groove. No GoT for sure, but still an acceptable and entertaining passage of time in front of the TV (with swords).

I enjoyed the show for what it is, but was pretty disappointed in the Battle of Sodden Hill.
