I've just bought one of the blunt Atrim/Valiant longswords, it's a nice sword for the money but the edge is really too thin IMHO, it's already got a couple of nicks in it from going head to head with my Hanwei H&H practical and I've a feeling it's going to end up looking like a hacksaw blade before too long. So, how do I thicken the edge? Is it a case of simply filing the flat edge to remove stock or is the process more involved? The only power tool I have is a Dremmel, any use or should I just rely on hand files and wet & dry?

Yup, just remove material from the edge, be sure also to round it off when you have also, square edges can cut as well as sharp corners being a stress riser. The dremel might give you a wavy edge, so either go slow and careful or try a file.

That's about what I thought, just wanted to make sure before I started, thanks, Sam.

Electroplating. I don't know the details of setting it up but I know it adds layers of mettle evenly and attaches at the molecular level so it won't come off. You might be able to pick up some more info here: www.caswellplating.com/kits/Their kits are expensive. If you research it enough you can probably find a way to do it cheaper.

Unless you're very very very good at using a dremmel; don't! Doing it by hand with a file is actually quicker and theres a much lower chance of ruining your sword. You have been warned
