is it in US or cdn $? ordered their Exclibur yesterday and much to my dismay, popped for it anyway as I wanted one since '81, it was damn near twice what it's listed for due to the exchange rate. ordered thru DSA's site, and since their swords are made in Canada, why the discrepancy?

Where are you? I bought one back in December and it was exactly what was listed in US dollars on the sight.

DSA lists it at 645. when I got the email receipt found this: From amount $861.84 CAD To amount $645.00 USD Exchange rate: 1 CAD = 0.748399 USD. nothing to say what currency is used. if I HAD know it was in US $s, I might have reconsidered before carting it
nerdthenord, I'm in Nova Scotia

I don’t trust them, I don’t like their products or their business ethics...there is much better quality at lower prices elsewhere.
REWARD HONESTY!

so, if I get this right, DSA, a company in Canada and doing business here, lists their products in said $s, but it's really in US $s? something wrong there. I have an Accolade on the way from reliks and IT'S listed/sold in cdn $s, and THEIR in Canada

I have purchased 3 DSA swords. Every one of them has a noticeable twist in their blade in the last third toward the point. I have the Excalibur and it looks nice and the hilt is beautiful, but the same twist in the blade. Very poor quality control on the blades. Customer service isn't very interested in addressing these issues and they use the 'hammer forged' excuse.

it was a video of a guy who bought the 1500$ DSA LOTR ranger sword was seriously unhappy with the horrendous sharpening job. It’s a pretty shocking video actually because you can really feel his regret for spending the money. He mentioned in the comments that DSA made it right by fixing his blade, but now the video is nowhere to be found. well, at least they DID make things right. it suxx tho, spending that much, and something wrong first time out
dwinter, what sort of twist, how bad, any pix? I'd hate to have to send my Excalibur back for it to be taken care of

I certainly hesitate to chime in here - I hope no one gets offended or takes this wrong - I mean no harm.
It appears DSA is a very controversial sword company. It's pretty easy to find disappointed buyers and even videos of DSA swords failing.
If their swords were inexpensive, like $250 Windlass swords, I can understand why people would continue to purchase them. And I admit, they look great! I'd LOVE to have a sword which looks as good as the some DSAs I've seen. But these are $450 - $700 swords, and there seems to be a number of people very dissatisfied with them.
Again, I don't mean to stir up trouble, but I was wondering: Given their price and reputation, how do they manage to sell as many swords as they seem to?

They have some unique designs you can't really get elsewhere like those lotr swords, which I dont know if they are licensed or not lol, they cater to alot of people who just want a "real" sword and dont do much research into it, their website looks good and marketing is good, if they really have improved it would actually not be a bad deal for the price and long time ago they were considered good tanky beaters but their rep has been bad for at least a few years now

I'd read about some of DSA's "issues", and knew of them going in with Excalibur, and I suspect it was made before any changes were put in place, assuming DSA's detractors are right. I also suspect those detractors are competitors trying to make THIER swords look better. it may be a bit much to spend for a first DSA sword even one made by them, but it's Boorman's ExCALibur.
feydrid, I'd read about things improving, in in the day in the life vid, they SEEM to know what they're going. I just hope it's not propaganda

Well, to be honest, you could find quite some other vid which show different experiences... not with the Excalibur AFAIK. And this Jason Woodard guy is DSA's front line preacher. Sorry. I am quite sure the swords he receives are handpicked.

I love my Excalibur. But it is after all a fantasy piece and is sluggish. I have never put it through serious use as I always intended it as a functional collector’s item and not a serious beater. It’s stunningly beautiful and seems solid enough. When I hit it there seems to be a nice tang in there.

I am quite sure the swords he receives are handpicked. yeah, saw a few of his other vids and easily gathered he was a fanboi, but I don't see why that should take away from any real testing. now, MR saw some of his and find them rather more realistic. wouldn't mind knowing what HE thinks of Excalibur.
nerdthenord, not gonna beat the crap outta mine either. it's just too nice looking. might see how it does against a soda bottle, should one ever be offensive toward me. do gotta like that ting sound tho
