Found this riveted what I believe to be sword handle on a beach in Western Canada. Unknown material but it is flaking quite steadily... Perfect fit for a hand full, so unlikely to have been wrapped in much additional material. Amazing detail for comfort, even finger slots for all fingers. Any ideas??? Thank You

I think it's a modern thingy, made of cast metal, maybe aluminum... you can see that it used to be symmetrical but the other "horn" has broken off and the stump been smoothed over by the heavy corrosion.

Looks to me like the mounts you tie ropes to on boats, imagine the thing fastened in some manner to the side of a boat near the front, and then complete with another hook in a symmetrical manner as MoK states. Now imagine rope around that tied to the pier or dock. That's my best guess.

I thought it could be a cleat, too, at first, but their "horns" are always angled well away from each other to stop the line from slipping off them.
