I had asked him before if there was any markings on the spine and he said there was none
I believe its a german made copy But not portugese as those had shagreen grips iirc
The usa did import 1821 copies prior to/during the civil war as well

Yeah, I messaged him as well and he never got back in regards to markings or not.
I would love to buy it if there was a chance of it being a British service weapon. But I don't really want another mystery sabre. But then again that said if I don't want to spend the 600 he's asking for his Italian 1860 (I bought mine a few years back for 220, and with full grip leather wiring and most of the polish intact!) Then I might have to play the waiting game for a Brit sabre that doesn't cost as much as my car.

That's pretty scuzzy and without makers marks I'd be disinclined to spend 400.00 on it. Portuguese sabers usually were from Madrid or Toledo, not Solingen.

Dave Kelly yeah I was gonna try to talk him down to at least 300, but seeing as it's not any sort of British service sword or Portuguese I'm really somewhat disinclined to even pursue it. What do you think about his asking price for his Italian 1860? 600 for the sword and scabbard; pretty clean blade but pitted hilt with a pretty sorry grip. @edelweiss I didn't know R.W.L. was an active member of any forums, that's nearly as interesting as the info on Portuguese swords. Thanks for the copy paste from that thread, I'll likely archive the reply for reference, pretty useful especially as I've just been using the single ring scabbard and blade length as a judgement call.

That is an unusual blade for an Italian Saber. More 1879 ish pipeback. It looks in grand shape. Sounds a bit high at 600.00. Like some more pics of the marks. There is a Swiss 1867 Cav Off Saber on ebay. The grip is beat up, rest of the sword look VG. If there is nothing loose this is a fine saber. Only wants 255.00 + shipping.

Looks like a nice sword but just don't feel a connection to it, though if it stays up I might be tempted to it. I had a Swiss M1899, that was a nicely built but wimpy sword. Really, my antique buying funds are somewhat freed up, apart from wanting the EC 1802 LC and having to pay the last installment on my custom. I was referring to this sword he has up - rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F142778791750 I have a KS79, I actually quite like it. If I find a KS52 or find someone willing to sell their model there is no doubt I'd overpay to have one.

He had been quite active for about a decade there at SFI but has not posted in nearly two years. In his 70s, I rather imagine he is not spending much time online. He has authored quite a few books and did spend an inordinate amount of time disseminating many Wilkinson documents and sword lore in general. He had been quite involved in building the Fairbairn-Sykes pages over that same period during the past decade or so. www.wilkinsonfscollection.com/wilkinsonfscollection.com/Home.htmlI have never had a correspondence with him outside of SFI, so I can only guess what he is up to and wish him well. His posts there easily found through his profile page. www.swordforum.com/forums/member.php?30005-Robert-Wilkinson-Latham
