Hi, I'm new to the forum and just getting started on my collection. I have had this Bayonet for most of my life and always thought it to be a WW1 era British Bayonet. I decided to (lightly) clean off some of the rust from the blade and discovered some inscriptions. One says 'Schilling' and another slightly below says 'SUHL'. Am I right in thinking this is a pre 1900 German Bayonet? I've added some pictures, but my camera is a little broken so the quality isn't great. Thanks ~ R

Congrats. That looks 100% authentic to me. It should say V.C. Schilling suhl. The V.C. is very worn but still visible in your photos. Is it valuable? No idea. It probably is authentic though. The Markings, wear, tarnish, everything looks real to me.

I believe you are correct. The pipeback design is somewhat unique, and makes it easy to identify. Its interesting that their obsession with pipeback designs extended to the bayonet as well This here is a good reference for the future. The database does not cover all models, but for what models are included its pretty through worldbayonets.com/
