Hello Y'all. I think it's safe to say the fantasy and historical fiction genres really were a basis for most of our interest in swords. Therefor, I thought about asking who you believe your spirit character from any of these works is at this moment. I know it can be difficult to pick one, so you can list as many as you want, within reason of course lol!
For me at this moment, it would have to be Raistlin from the Dragonlance series. I really felt a connection with this character when reading the Twins trilogy. We are both physically fail and sickly as children. Both of us have a far more athletic twin. We both nurtured are minds instead of our bodies and as a result are highly intelligent(although a big difference is my twin brother is just as smart as me).
Another one of my spirit characters is Elric of Melnibone. Sensing a pattern yet lol?
As for historical characters, I identify with King Alfred the Great of England the most. For historical fiction, King Alfred(soon to be The Great) and Ivar the Boneless from Vikings are my spirit characters, with Bjorn being what I hope to look like now that I'm exercising regularly and eating well lol!.
So who are your spirit characters, and why? I'd love to know.

Historical fiction? What sorts of stuff fall in line with that category? Is mythology acceptable?

Historical fiction? What sorts of stuff fall in line with that category? Is mythology acceptable? Yeah, mythology is fine. Really anything that remotely has to do with Fantasy or History stuff.

I'd define historical fiction as works based on real history, with varying degrees of accuracy vs fantasy.

In fantasy, I'm Han-f-ing-Solo. In historical times, I'm an as-yet-un-named rogue Knight who is loyal to no king. I'm strictly a sellout mercenary looking for a big payday...a sword-for-hire, if you will. Not really all that different from Han Solo, when you look at it from both angles. Just call me Sir Drinksalot.

Link from Legend of Zelda as far as movies/fantasy goes. Maybe Corvo Attano from Dishonored as well. It is a tie
But as far as Mythology goes, I am a big fan of King Nuada

Tricky question. This one is easy to get way to meta with. That said, I'm going to go with Shadow from American Gods.

Huh, this is a fun idea to ponder.
As far as historical figures go, I guess Musashi? I seem to share his appreciation of dual-wielding (although I like two katana versus daisho), his emphasis on training (at least 2-3 hours a day for me, sword in hand), the sort of 'figure-it-out-myself' mindset (self-reliance?) that permeates his philosophy as well as his disastrous luck with women. Once you deal with a wiggy Otsu, a break from romance is well deserved.
As far as fictional characters, well I'm enough of a beer loving cynic that me and my avatar (Geralt, but also Roach) could probably suitably annoy each other. Like ye olde witcher, I also tend to get along the best with flamboyant and somewhat narcissistic people who are creative types, I can easily think of a handful of Dandelions among friends, both current and past. Haven't met a Yennefer yet, but had my share of succubi and striga. Sadly didn't have any silver around lol

Captain Picard! No joke, that's leadership for me! (thanks for the "captain" hint) Historically? HRE Emperor Maximilian! (A bit like GoT, but much more complicated!)

Erevis Cale from the forgotten realms books franchise, truly amazing character. Wow I didn’t know anyone else knew or liked Shades! I was gonna say Jarlaxle, but Erevis is a great reply.

Mask reminds me of Loki somewhat, but Paul Kemp wrote some of the Drow books as well as the Erevis Cale series, and even some Star Wars books I think?

the only Kemp I read was the Cale trilogy and the twilight war trilogy, I do know he wrote some star wars novels as well, I love his writing style.

I liked all of the Erevis Cale/ Drasek Riven books as well. He’s very descriptive and flowing with his writing. I wasn’t “bored” at all with any of his books, unlike with some other fantasy writers!

No doubt Arminius.
The great German tribal leader. Led the germans at the famous battle of tuetoberger forest. Ultimately wiping out 3 roman legions, and discouraged the romans so much that they never again launched a campaign to subdue Germania.
Mostly because i am of heavily german origin, and am very proud of my heritage.
