Windlass Longsword
By Ray Harrington CA USA
I was looking for a longsword with about the same dimensions as my waster, with a budget of $200. There was some swords that I had in mind but I wanted the best sword for me with my limited budget. I got on myArmoury and threw myArmoury I found SBG and I have been here ever since. I read the post here and asked some questions and decided to get the Windlass Longsword.
When I got the sword I did find it a bit whippy but not as bad as other Windlass's swords. But I'm still easily able to go into the German guards and do the master cuts with it. I can even thrust into some heavy targets.
Blade length 38"
Hilt length 9"
Overall 48"
POB 6"
COB 28 1/2"
Weight 3 lbs
The blade
The blade has a 6" ricasso and three fullers. Two 6" fullers are on the sides of the ricasso and one in the middle of the blade that is 25" from the guard.
The grip
Is a 6" wood handle wrapped with leather and stitched together. With the pommel I can get a nice 9" grip. And after a year of use the thread is is coming undone and the leather is splitting
The pommel
The pommel is 3", I like the pommel except for the nut at the end.
I had this sword for more then a year and this is the first time the pommel got loose and twisted when I was cutting with it, as you see in the picture.
The guard
is 10" wide and 9/16" at the grip and tappers to 6/16 at the ends.
The scabbard
the scabbard is a typical Windlass scabbard but this fits pretty snug then normal Windlass's scabbards. I made a belt last summer for it.
With a 6" POB this sword cuts really good but I think the whippiness
can get in the way.
I really like this sword but I would like it more if the blade wasn't so whippy and the pommel was peened. This sword is good for someone who wants to do some back yard cutting or some WMA and this sword for be good for display to, people always say something when they see the sword.
History Accuracy 3 /5
Fit and Finish 3.5 /5 (I would of gave it a 4 if it wasn't for the leather wrap coming undone.)
Structural Integrity 3.5 /5
Value for Money 4 /5
Overall 3.5 /5
Many bottles WERE harmed in making this review. ;D
