I have a couple suggestions. Maybe we can work up a big list of our favorites.
- Last Hurrah For Chivalry (1979)
- Duel To Death (1983)

My favorite one is Reign of Assassins. Here is a clip of one of the most interesting scenes:
.
I have watched that scene over and over, it's so well done.

I always liked Hero and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Hero in particular has a great fight scene with a sword v spear that is pretty rad.
A little more on the fantastical side but still neat!

Never heard or seen this movie before so now I gotta check it out that fight scene was intense and I don't think i've ever seen a dagger like those before.

I also liked where the (potential) assassin uses the term "acupoint." The movie has some weird characters but good guys, too.
Another fairly good Chinese action movie is Shaolin (2011). Jackie Chan is in the movie in a typically humorous role but he isn't the star. It's basically about Chinese war lords fighting with one another but most of the story takes place at the Shaolin temple. It's destroyed at the end, which happened in real life in the 1920s. It's been restored since then and, like just about everything else, it has a website. It's really a kung fu action movie, super well done but with only a little swordplay.
It's never too late to sharpen your sword.

Crouching tiger hidden dragon & Crouching tiger hidden dragon: sword of destiny are two great movies, the second one isn't as good as the first I did enjoy it very much. It even has Liuyedao in one particular scene which was cool, you don't see that dao often it is usually the oxtail getting the screen time.

The girl in frame at :29 must have a sword designed for Wushu the way that blade flexes. That’s a big beef of mine about Wushu and the weapons. I’ve heard it said regarding a wushu martial artist that if they used a real oxtail dao instead of that whippy thing they use they would lose an ear, or more.

Hey! Even I want to know about it. I am going to stick around this post so that I get to know about all the good movies and shows available online. Also, I am planning to watch series by Andy Yeatman with my kids. I hope I find more of it for the vacation.

Red Cliff has a few good scenes. Edit: Also God of War. I had to go looking for the name as I had forgotten, and there is some decent sword play in this movie.

Just stumbled on this thread. Jet Li in Hero had tons of awesome scenes, if I remember right its the one that had a really intense dao/sabre fight in it where the furniture had a very bad day. Donnie Yen in Ip Man had a couple scenes involving swords that were kind of cool, but really that trilogy is a love letter to wing chun.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a classic as well. There's quite a few other movies I'm blanking on, but I remember House of Flying Daggers also being a good time, not very heavy on swordplay though.
Into the Badlands is an awesome show. A friend recommended it and I've been thanking him ever since, very fun show with some really cool choreography.
Also, for entertainment, consider SwordMaster (2016 movie)... it's...well...umm....dramatic. But rather entertaining in a somewhat rather silly way. The bone claw scene makes me lose it laughing. Similarly, "The Ice Man" starring Donnie Yen is a hilarious movie for a myriad of reasons, if you can excuse how ridiculous it is and how it isn't remotely grounded in reality, it's a fun occasion for good laughs during movie night.

I think you're actually thinking of Fearless; admittedly, it's been years since I've seen either one, but I remember that Li's character in Hero used a jian, while there's a huge scene in Fearless where Li and another guy are fighting in a tavern with dao that ends with basically everything in the building in pieces. Only reason I remember it, though, was that the antagonist was using a 9-ringed dao and, at one point, Li blocked a thrust by ramming his thumb through some of the rings.

Got the two confused. Such great movies, both

I'm a big fan of old school Hong Kong cinema. Chinese Ghost Story, The Bride with White Hair, Tsui Hark's Dao (AKA The Blade)... very fantastic, of course, though not much more than CTHD.
