Just finished the first cutting session I've done in months. Used KOA bought cutting mats and my H/T longsword. Sword did great, cut very well. I only soaked the mats for 1 hour and 30 minutes - they were more or less dry. Hard feedback, I had to cut at a high speed in order to cut the mat. They were all single rolls.
I didn't video the session as I didn't want to think about that, just wanted to focus on my mechanics, which were very rusty.

Normally people just soak them overnight. 4 hours is kind of considered the bare minimum. (Though there are different types of mats, which naturally vary)

Did you soak in hot water? I cut some partial rolls I soaked for about 1 hour in hot water but they were loosely rolled. Soaked through though, was able to cut them easily with my US 1860 and machete cutlass, which was surprising as the 1860 is quite a thick but narrow blade.

It was an interesting experiment. Later this week I'll cut again but have some soaked 24 hours and some soaked for 1 hour and a half, just to compare.

I would like to see the video also. I keep getting a message saying that the uploader hasn't made this video available in my country. Cork.pdf (108.09 KB)

Thanks. I needed the laugh and got more than I bargained for.
