This is not an April fool's day prank. I'm wondering if anyone can offer a quick identification of this heavy Greek/Roman or Other wallhanger or sword shaped object I've been using recently to build up my sword arms. In my youth I purchased sword shaped objects, wallhanger, daggers, knives, military etc etc etc not caring about what they were. Over the years I've found forever homes for these items of an illspent youth...or at least a world gobbling all things sharp n shiny youth...This is one of the only remaining sword shaped objects from my youth and I've long since lost/forgotten what the heck it is. Help me o sword Brothers and Sisters Cheers Keith P/s ignore basement mess. Reno is on hold 😭😭😭

I have no idea, but it's certainly interesting. I'm curious what the design inspiration was, apart from "naked men"...

The only thing I can guess (and not more) is it might be some kind of fraternity sword or a modern repro of such a thing. Not greek or roman but a bit similar to some military short swords of the early 19th cent.

Seems to be loosely modeled after the Greek xiphos.

Anything is better than the jumbled memory of "did I being this back from the U.K. or did I appropriate her while south of the border....?" 🍻 Keith

Seems to be loosely modeled after the Greek xiphos. That's a great take on her. A good place to start. Means I likely picked her up in the U.K. and not in the U.S.A. Cheers! Keith

Yeah it's definitely supposed to mimic a Xiphos, hilt shape and decor is a dead giveaway. Other than that looks like a nice katana (April fools )

As others have said, it definitely is supposed to have a Greek kind of look and feel about it. The way the "edge" is, and how it has a ricasso and long, flat area on the blade for the etching/decor, it looks for all the world to me to be a Marto/Martespa sword. Not saying it definitely is a Marto, but that's what it most looks like to me. Marto is a Spanish sword company out of Toledo. Most of their stuff is stainless steel and decorative only. It looks old, and I've never seen a Marto sword like that, but that's my guess.
Can you find any kind of maker's mark, or "Made In..." on it?

Oh! It actually IS a Marto piece - I just noticed you can clearly see their old M logo etched just below the guard in both close-up shots of the hilt.

Shoot, I was gonna jokingly suggest Marto, but I'd never seen one like this and don't really keep up with their catalogs.

But yep, you're right; that definitely proves its a Marto. I only started really looking at reproduction swords in the late 1990s, and I've never seen a Marto like that. I'd guess its older than that.

I seriously thought that was part of the decoration to be honest! Good call! Thanks. Gonna make up a nice wall mount this weekend if I can dig out my router table 🍻 Now that I know who made her I can set about finding out more about her. Keith

The first picture is a woman, you can tell by the breasts and hips. I never miss details like breasts and hips on a woman although it's usually the eye's that first get's my attention.

Oh, you're right. I think I only looked at a couple pictures, and one happened to be the bearded model, so I just assumed it was some reference to Greco-Roman art which is almost always naked dudes.

The man is Hercules (club, lion skin hood, crete bull's head) and the woman Athene (shield with Medusa's head, spear). With this I could google the "Marto Alexander the Great Sword" which seems to be not exactly your sword but very similar. Perhaps an early version?
