I been considering ordering the Windlass Long Blades Hewing Spearhead, or the Greek Spearhead. Out of windlass offerings, which would you guys recommend based on personal experience? I am open to other suggestions
For context, I would like this to be able to be used on beast and man alike. All kinds of defense. I like what cold steel has to offer, but the shovel looking spearheads turn me off

However, they are FAR sharper than the other offerings because of that design, and for under $40 (including kydex sheath) it is a no brainer to purchase for collection purposes alone. You should end up with a spear of some type in every room.

Go with the Euro. The Hewing has a flat area by the socket which can bend easier than the Euro which has a tapered /stronger /longer socket.
I'll take some side by side pics later and post them so you can see the differences.

Here are the side by side pics: The smaller of the two is the Euro. Please note how far the socket goes up the blade giving the spearhead a lot more strength than the Hewing spear head which is fairly flat (read bendable) where the socket ends at the start of the blade. Hope this helps.

I used the one I had as a throwing spear, it flexed but never took a set.

I used the one I had as a throwing spear, it flexed but never took a set. Funny, I did the exact same thing with my Hewing Spear (threw it multiple times at different targets) and it bent right at the junction between the socket and blade... When I contacted MRL about it they stated that their spearhead were not temper. Dunno if that's true anymore or not, or even if the customer service rep I talked to knew what she was talking about, but there it is....

Huh, actually I do remember reading that thread before purchasing and it was a major point in my deciding to abuse it. I know mine was tempered. Perhaps it was a production line change or a fluke, but it flexed nicely when I was wedging it out of trees and such.

And that's exactly what bent mine: throwing it into trees (well, logs). Dang, now I want to buy another one and seen if mine wasn't just an odd ball. Maybe I'll grab the Euro....

I do remember redmichael doing a video review of the Hewing Spear (I think he bought it around the same time I did). In the video, he threw the spear into some dirt, and the tip hit a rock and bent. Jordan, when did you buy yours?

For context, I would like this to be able to be used on beast and man alike. All kinds of defense. Thus: two-handed use (one-handed means lightweight heads are good), no need to worry about armour (armour means narrow stiff heads are good). Wide, long, not too heavy but moderate weight is OK. I would add: wings are really good - against man, useful for parrying and hooking, against beast, useful for keeping them away from you. A prominent ridge will give you excellent stiffness for thrusting, but will make cutting less effective. Thrusting is more important than cutting, so this can be a good trade-off. If you have the budget: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=AA112&name=Arms+%26+Armor+Friedrich+IV+SpearOtherwise, Windlass Euro, or Cold Steel MAA Euro, Leaf, Boar (the MAA spears aren't shovel-style AFAIK). For beast, put stop toggles on the ones without wings:
