Hello all, I took some pics of the swords on display at the Genghis Khan exhibit at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA. It will be there until August 19. The first two are of a dao with a 13th century Mongol blade that was refurbished in the 18th century for Emperor Qianlong. The second two are of a Mongol officer's sword dated 15th century with rayskin covered hilt and scabbard, my particular favorite. The last pic is a Mongol sword with a watered steel blade, wootz I believe. I thought this post should be in the Chinese section since I'm sure the Mongols used and were exposed to Chinese style edged weapons.

Agreed! The guard is different from the usual Jian guards I have seen. It would definitely make a good design for a replica.

mrstabby: Been thinking the same - but the person that set up the page might not be there anymore and old code gets messy when not maintained. Might be a "repair subscriptions, destroy function X, repair X, destroy Y" situation by now - would mean a total overhaul. Nov 18, 2024 7:29:27 GMT
