Hello to the Sword Brothers and Sisters of the board,
Anyone who knows me knows I'm verbose so...you were warned
Me? a new member of the board who's lurked and lurked and watched videos of your experiences for a while now.
Why? Kids are getting interested in martial arts and I'm reviving a long dormant hobby to help me deal with ... well life.
Relevant interests: Japanese swords both modern production and historic nihonto with a focus on the material science and aesthetic beauty in the blade steel and sword fittings.
Relevant experience: lost wax casting, silver jewellery work, amber cutting, carving and polishing, primative forging (coal and charcoal--no i am not a smith!!!), mud wall bloomery forge work, couple blade smithing courses, gas welding and gas cutting, woodworking with Pa etc over 40+ years of life.
Recent acquisitions purchased here
Ronin Dojo Pro #14 from teeman
Unokubi Zukuri DH from Huawei from Alexander
Recent acquisitions purchased off forum
Silver Anniversary Shinto # 114
A simple th beater for my daughter to aspire to ownership. Likely an Alibaba purchase found on kijiji.
Projects upcoming summer 2016
Water casting some copper for tsuba
casting/making some amber&silver menuki and kashira
Birdseye maple shirasaya for an older blade not on the list.
In short (I know--too late)
After collecting knives and other bladed weapons in my teens and taking a 20 year break ...
I'm bringing together my other hobbies and unifying them around the Japanese style sword.
I want to incorporate what I know and the tools at my disposal to have a fulfilling hobby that shows my kids what they can do if they are creative and experiment with new (well, old?) techniques..
Cheers
Ouroboros
