Had a lot of little flaws with my Windlasses - but NOT ONE of them has ever broken or bent during a cutting session; their heat-treating always was right. Nor do they advertise their blades to be made in Canada... ;-) Well, seriously, i am aware their smiths surely dont live the happiest of labour life for sure... nor do the chinese workers. But honestly, i am fed up to the gills caring for the rest of the world. I support local animal shelters, quite a lot, and thats it.

So I was just wondering if anyone here bought one of these because they seem to be selling fast. On Amazon they started out with 18 of them they're down to 6 plus they have two 5 star ratings from buyers.

This is the first time I've seen the sword so I don't know if a video on YouTube will happen before the remaining 6 are sold out. The seller says a "copper nut and pommel" but a buyer said the pommel is pinned on. I can't see any pin in the pommel in any pictures. If it is a pommel nut so I can easily take the sword apart to make some improvements I would pull the trigger on it. I don't even care about the blade because I have a better blade I want to use on it as long as the seller is right that the blade is 2 1/4 inches wide like my blade is. I just thought with so many of them sold maybe someone here might have bought one so I could get some straight answers from them.

Dang, that's disappointing. The sharpening job is fairly bizarre.
I really like your display by the way. The woodwork by itself is awesome, and then you have those great looking swords, axes and photos and the helmet above to send it over the top. It looks killer.

Thanks, I really wanted a Suontaka at the top of it but I'll just have to wait a little longer. I'll do the best I can to try to clean up that sharpening job.

The dragon carvings at the top on either side of the display, really set it off. I bet it's a fun night in your home when a new episode of Vikings is on.

I angled the boards to look like a Viking ships bow coming at you. I don't get TV reception out here so I have to wait until it comes out on DVD.

At first glance looking through the clear bubble wrap it looked pretty good except I could tell even without measuring it the blade wasn't 2 1/4 inches wide as claimed by the seller. Turned out to be 2 inches which was still better then Windlass 1 3/4 inch. As expected, from their photos: I measured based on the length of the blade in the photo; based on the length, the blade is only 2" wide, and the guard would be about the same size as the RQP. How long is the grip? How long is the guard?

Just to put this to a rest Timo, pictures never lie just incase you might think I would. As you can see the guard is 4 3/4" not 4 1/8" and the pommel is 2 5/8" not 2 1/8". So they are not the same size as the ones from RQP. Don't know why you want the grip length since RQP doesn't sell the grip but just to humor you it's 4 1/2" in the center. I included a link to make it easier for you to go back and check RQP measurement's. Why, because that's just the kind of guy I am. raymonds-quiet-press.myshopify.com/collections/viking/products/sword-set-with-knot-design-finnish Incase your eye sight isn't what it once was, click on picture to enlarge.

Since the tape measure pictures wasn't accurate enough I redid them with a caliper. The things I do just to please you. You know the more I handle the sword the more I think it isn't really that bad except for the really bad sharpening job. Guess I need to work on improving that.

Wow Thanks for the review. Do you plan to cut with it?

One problem i've seen with cheaper swords like this, many times the fuller is off center. How's the overall blade shape and grind? And WOW...those fittings look like crap up close. Have you looked at Raymond's Quiet Press for fittings? He makes them, they are better than these, but not perfect like the ones Albion used.

Gruggier not really, I have plenty of plainer swords to cut with. That's why I wish they had not sharpened it. The sword really isn't that bad except for the hideous sharpening job. Need to clean that up.
Sir Thorfinn the fuller is actually pretty straight and so is the blade and the fittings are lined up. Yes the detail in the guard and pommel isn't very good but it's a $199 sword. I did look a the RQP fittings but as you can see above they are just to small, more dagger size. I have a good Viking blade that I would make into a Suontaka if I could find good fitting for it. Even put a WTB in our classifieds but got nothing.

Don't know why you want the grip length since RQP doesn't sell the grip but just to humor you it's 4 1/2" in the center. It's one of the things that contributes to how accurate/inaccurate the sword is. A plain grip can be easy to shorten (depending on the construction of the hilt), but with the fancy shaping and fittings on this, this one would be harder to shorten.

To tell you the truth I don't think the sword is worth the trouble to redo. It's strictly for someone who wants a Suontaka but can't afford more then $200. All I'm going to do is clean up the really bad sharpening job and leave it as is. From five feet away it actually looks good.
