I clicked in for the delightful D&D Reference, and stayed for the absolutely amazing photography work. Positively stellar.
I mean, the collection is itself incredible, but with those photographic skills you could make a picture of a rubber ducky seem deeply profound.

That is some ace photography! On a side note... it's amazing how many reputable builders have utter crap pictures on their website. I've seen pictures of that Kriegsmesser and it does not look this good with amateur photography, in your pics it looks like a super high end piece.(not that it's a bad piece by any means but what I've seen before just looked ok not amazing)

I agree it's a bit odd, but on the other hand good photography takes time and that's time you could be in the shop working. If your queue is full and keeps filling there is no need I suppose. Let's not mention the photography equipment I have is worth this sword 4 times over and isn't even considered close to high end gear, expensive hobby. That said, despite some of the handmade marks and a few of the machining scratches (mostly on the false edge) I would say this piece at least punches above it's price by quite a bit. I have seen examples of this sword where the fuller has been much less perfect than mine, except for the very beginning of the fuller mine comes in without any inconsistencies and centers perfectly with the false edge, I think this is part of what helps it look a lot more high end than some other examples. It definitely doesn't stick out in any bad way hanging right next to my Albions and the VA piece.

You're right about the photographic equipment being expensive and good photography taking time, thus I'm suggesting that maybe the makers should employ a professional photographer to showcase their work. I was looking at Manning Imperial's website yesterday. I'm sure the pieces are great and the craftsmanship is great too but the pictures are abysmal. Good photography should be part of their marketing budget (it probably will turn into more sales). Some makers do it well (Albion) but a lot of the others could use professional help with their websites and photography (looking at you Armour Class)...

Yeah there are certainly a few offenders, Armour Class like you say stick out like a sore thumb..Both their website and images are like a time machine into the 90s. I also don't understand why they wouldn't at least show newer and more detailed pictures as it would as you say cause more sales. I've looked at Armour Class a few times but the pictures have always turned me away completely, I'm not buying something unless I can go through several reviews or see good pictures of previous work.

Actually if you want to see some good quality images of Armour Class's work, look on My Armoury. There's some hands on reviews of their cup and ring basket hilt with good images, and their work and craftsmanship is actually really good (especially for the price). They're slightly more expensive than a Hanwei but are built in a traditional fashion (no cast hilt baskets). I quite fancy one of their basket hilts. My point is: if they would upgrade their website with some better layout and some good professional Hi-rez images they would undoubtedly be on top of the affordable basket hilt game.

Yeah a good baskethilt as been on my list for a while so that's why I've been looking at them as well, however there are too many wants ahead of it on my list so it's not been much of a priority. If anything I'd likely source a blade somewhere and have Jesse Belsky make the hilt, he does some beautiful work.
