I always thought the San Mai Natchez had a solid rod, while all other versions had the cable... Gotta look into this as I thought the opposite. Heard the Japanese produced models cable tang were more expensive to produce, distributed handle vibration and balanced for forward weight. Do not know exactly where and when they changed and on what models.

Another ebay bowie from Pakistan, actually quite nice for the money. 11" blade, 5,5" handle. Wished it had more thickness at the forte and the blade-tang-junction, also that it had an all-wood handle with a simple stick-tang instead of being steel-encapsulated. Would make for less weight in the hand and more blade presence. Ah well, what do I ask for for the money. Still a nice knife, quick, does thrust and slice very well.

I like it, handsome in it's simplicity, Bagwell like blade, can't go wrong. This is why I asked Ursa for one of these...

Brother, thank you for the pics and data.
I’ve been trying to get a Windlass Mexican bowie for quite some time from here in Germany, with no luck yet. A thinner, lighter bowie definitely has its merits. It tires you out less, is easier to carry, very responsive on the techniques and can cut just as well as heavier knives as long as the blade is of sufficient length and balance (under "realistic" circumstances, vs. "realistic" targets). That’s why I still love the CS bowie machete (with the Natchez style blade shape). Terrific on the thrust and backcut (due to the sharpened false edge it comes with), great penetration due to being thin way up to the spine, very fast yet able to do the power cuts (due to the width, belly and balance). Slices very well, especially with the edge shoulders taken off some. Great handle. Durable, no-nonsense design and execution. Would love to have the chance to compare it to the Mexican bowie some day. Out of my collection, the Windlass Coffin Handle may come closest (which is a fine knife, rather slender to get deep on the thrust, but not as powerful on the cut as the CS machete, and without a sharpened false edge and a less comfortable/secure handle).
May I ask what is the pob on the Windlass Mexican?

You can really see the similarities with the Sheffield knife there. Nice blade.

Ironwood is stunning, but scarce. You have excellent taste. It definitely looks like a period camp or cook's knife.

Windlass Mexican Bowie, I absolutely love this thing. Probably in my top 5. Easily my favorite budget bowie.
Mine came a few minutes ago. It came straight through, no hassle with customs. I'll post my opinions later when it know it better, but so far I like it. I must say that the point is wicked. I sent it through the side of the scabbard when in the pickup station and again in my bedroom without trying. Damn near drew blood the first time. That probably explains the broken thread in KoA's ad, but I did a better job both times.

An elegant, classic bowie there Nathan. Blued guard contrasts with blade in an interesting way. That knife just SCREAMS leather sheath for sure, almost sinful doing a kydex job.

That's my favorite bowie design the Musso style.

Ohhh, nice! Perhaps the most fascinating Musso I ever saw. Very intriguing, from the shape of the handle, to the large steel quillons, to the gently curved/swept blade. Very nice.

Cold Steel OSI and Marauder. Love how they did the blade on these, every aspect of it. Sharp, nicely ground for slicing, robust tips. Pretty tough for stainless steels. Attachments:

KHHI John J Tribute Bowie, designed by youtuber dbad. Super solid, well-made, lots of character. Edge bevels are too steep. Blocky grip that creates hot spots. Still a great knife to enjoy. Attachments:

Gulzar Ahmed Hell’s Belle replica. Had this one for a few months. Tested it quite a bit. Unlike any other Ursa before, I had to fix the edge bevels on this one. Tough knife with great handling, a full-force fighting bowie.
