Hello all,
Recently I have caught a lot of flack from people on Facebook and other places about my Sino Review. I get the Feeling that people were really expecting me to be much more critical and go into "Bash" Territory. I have had a few conversations about this and it has made me want to start an open article about a little of my experience and Expectations of things as they go through the price spectrum.
The Problem: people often don't know what to expect and get false hopes thinking because someone says a blade is good or "Petty Nice" "Sweet" ex. That the blade is really good. Example I have a Hanwei Practical Plus XL and for a Hanwei I rate it as 8/10 and say it's an impressive sword. But People might not get that impression and opinion is in that range the sword sells for ($365 shipped currently KoA) when it may or may not be comparable to a blades $1000 more that people might say the same things about and preform the same tasks with.
The Starting Point: Okay the first 3 pictures are of my Sino Total cost just south of $900 overall feeling and Rating 8/10.... The next 3 is a Blade that cost about $1500. The last two are blade shots... Now here is the kicker... Both blades got the same general specks for measurements, hamon, geometry ex. Notice anything?.... One is not like the other. So way off Speck. And look at that tsuka... Now had I gotten that on my Sino I would have freaked. Because?... It literally fell apart after 1 session of cutting. The Menuki fell out, the Kashira almost came off ex. BUT look at the Blades. Now aside from being wrong geometry, the hamon is wrong and the specks are under measurements. Rating 3/10... The blades are way different in quality. No doubt the off Speck blade is a prettier and on that alone got the 3. BUT everything else is very wrong. And it was almost double cost.
And this is just 1 of about 10 failed attempts.
