My wife loves cooking and her dad was a professional chef. She loves swords and has supported me in my addiction to swords (and in fact sometimes enables it)... What better way to celebrate her than to marry two worlds and get her a lovely blade for the kitchen! She is a sucker for pattern weld, and good steel... so this Christmas I decided she needed a Shun chef’s knife... she loves it and is happy... what do you think y’all? Husband win?

Yeah, that's a good-lookin' knife. I like the dotted/dimpled finish, I'm sure it has a real name...

Those Shun knives are sooo gorgeous. Their parent company, KAI, also own Kershaw and Zero Tolerance, who make great knives as well.

Cutting tests when? I kid I kid. Great idea to combine the best of both worlds, finally some knowledge on the material pays off ;-) Also, that's a pretty wild steel pattern! Can't say I've seen those before. Has a similar style been used on swords before or is that impossible/unfeasible?

Id guess this wasnt used in swords much because this is most likely stainless damascus, which isnt all that good for swords, and most sword makers perfer something more "vanilla" imo.
Also, great gift! Now before you notice she will be bidding on antique japanese cutlery from the XIII century 😂

Robert well SHE was the one who talked me into getting my Masamitsu... so that is pretty much a coup de gras Pink Pummy SG2 cutting core and stainless 32 layer skin. Hardened to HRC 64. Probably would not make a good sword.

Well done! She'll enjoy that for a long time to come.
It's nice when the wives are supportive, isn't it? A few months ago, for my birthday, the wife got me a proper stand for my 2x72 belt grinder.

OH, I thought maybe you gave her a stove made of swords like the thrown of swords. Or at least a refrigerator of swords.

That is one beautiful knife and she is sure to love it. oh she does. She used it last night and was delighted. The way it cuts is more than a little ridiculous... I am thinking Hattori Hanzo may have made it...
