For that much money I'd get a ticket to Tokyo and look around. I just checked on round trip airline tickets from U.S. to Japan. Cheaper than I thought (approx $500 to $700). What an adventure that would be. Meet up with a sword expert and go to the shops and see and feel before buying. Tour sword sites/forges. Mega sake....this is going on my bucket list!!!! Well certainly an option, but better if you had a base of knowledge first!

Tozando is a well known dealer so a reasonable choice. The tour looks awesome. I may need to add that to my itinerary for my trip to Japan this summer 😊

Mega Mega Mega cool. Several different forge offers but see link to a forge offer with more pics: jpninfo.com/35875

If flaws concern you then you can find decent shinsakuto or gendaito that are well within your budget. Of course different people want different things but with that budget you can find a nice quality nihonto either antique or modern and have something that is genuinely collectible.
