Ninjastar, While I was hunting for it a couple of years back, there were 2 versions but neither came close (through the photos) to the one in the movie, I'm afraid. One version had the green 'dragon' motives etched on the flexible blade spring steel blade... (see bleow link) The other comes in a stiff stainless steel blade but has the 'dragon' motives engraved in plain. Back then, I had little knowledge about blade material, and since I was concerned about the etching running off after cleaning, I bought the latter version, which was chunky, inflexible & off-balanced. Definitely bad for my wrist if I were to practice tai chi with it The hollow alloy grip and alloy scabbard are too light for holding & difficult to shield the sword. Lesser of the 2 evils will be the one with the spring steel, though I won't recommend you try cut anything with it Here's a couple of links for your reference (note huge price difference); you may want to check the tang issue with the sellers.. www.swordsofmight.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=208www.reliks.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=595

There are purchasable ones made by the same smith who produced the swords for the movies, the catch is that you'll break your wallet and you'll have to go to Shanghai to get this sword.

don't get me wrong that is a nice sword and would look really cool in tai chi class and doing free forms but cutting with it is a no no

I'm not sure about that piece with etched dragon on spring steel blade.... but the one with stiff stainless steel blade which I own is definitely NOT suitable for practicing the tai chi form cos the balance is too much off ...Definitely a strain to your wrist.

The Noble Collection used to have a real purty one, but as it was an SLO, you wouldn't want one any way!!! It's out of production now, so it's kind of a moot point.
Why did I even bring it up??

Not quite right, the original was produced in Tainan, southern Taiwan. I know the smith, and you can get there a lot of good, but rather expensive stuff. Probably at 2000 Euro starting.

Why waste your time on a movie replica when you can prictice with something better? Wait for Garret's jian to hit the market - that's my advice.

I bet if you tried hard enough Garrett could get a real one made, maybe a bit of money, but it would be worth it.
