Never seen one before, but it appears to be cast bronze. If that's the case, it could be at least 'semi-functional'---but yeah, I'd say give it some hang time. It has that bronze patina, but that CAN be faked.

There are a lot of cast bronze swords made in China or other mainland Asian nations, And many have the same patina. I've never seen anything similar to it, I would heavily doubt it's older than a few decades at most.
