hello everyone.this is my first post on this forum and any other for that matter in any section other then the classifieds. i have been lurking for a long time and seems like a great place with many like minded people. i look forward to becoming a contributing member.now too my question. can anybody direct me to a place for a durable warhammer? i have owned a few from museum replicas and found that the wood for the shaft seems too "light"to be used.the wood does not feel "dense" enough. am i wrong in this? does anyone feel the same? any suggestions? i have snapped 2 of the english warhammers from mrl hitting a heavy speedbag testing them out.needless to say they failed. i know this is not a proper testing target but thats all i have that's not stationary. i also have a coldsteel warhammer which has been pretty good. but i am looking for something a bit more authentic.thanks to everyone.

Hi and welcome to the forum! I don't have much experience with Warhammers (handled one a long time ago and swung it about for an hour), but I think if you can, get a custom or semi-custom one. Should last you long enough and will be more suited to your tastes. And since this forum is all about being more budget-minded (never a bad thing, unless ofcourse you want something to bond with forever), you could just get a custom shaft made. I would recommend a lot of people who would be good, plus if Ernest Roesler of Yeshua's Sword is willing to work with you on on this, try contacting him. He usually does not do such things but he might, never hurts to ask. There are of course plenty others but Ernie came to mind, I have no affiliations with him and I don't mean to demean others.

Welcome Elephant. I have no experience with MRL’s wooden hafts but hear many people complain about the quality. The haft is replaceable. In some cases the vendor has them on hand, but I think not with Windlass products. Never mind as you can find a piece of wood and make one far better than the original. If you are not into that sort of thing someone that is capable of woodworking should be able to do this for you.

The Lord of Battles Corvus Warhammer is a good one, from what I've read. Good luck finding one though - I've been looking for a long time, but they're out of stock most places.

The Cold Steel Warhammer is awesome if you take the time to un-do what Cold Steel did. The hammer comes unassembled. Use a wire-brush grinder to get rid of the ugly black coating and it reveals beautiful grainy patterned steel underneath. Do the same with the langettes. The handle will need a similar treatment---sanding and staining the color of your liking. The screws used to affix the langettes are absolute crap...toss them and get some good quality screws. Once assembled, you will have one helluva smasher-basher that will take the toughest punishment you can throw at it. They have them cheap on Amazon.com---cheaper than KOA---and usually free shipping. Get one and spend a weekend re-doing it and you won't be disappointed. .....Chris

Sorry....Didn't click to me that you already had a CSWH. Still though, with all CS products---especially the axes, hammers, and 'hawks---re-doing them is a fun project that is satisfying and inexpensive. Maybe someone will read my semi-drunken comments and get an inspiration. .....Chris

i appreciate everyone's input. Asad. i think budget minded is definatly a good thing. i will look at Yeshua Sword. pgandy. that is a fantastic idea. i will look for someone who can perhaps take a comission to make a new shaft for me, as my woodworking skills fall short of decent. Legacy. thanks. i will check that out. i really appreciate it. chris. i agree. the coldsteel hammer is high in my book for function. authentic looks not so much. and your right the screws were garbage, so i got some new screws for the one i have. i have had so many bag experiences with just the shafts i decided to wrap this one in fairly thick leather to reinforce the shaft as best as i could. not very authentic but it works.

That's badass, dawg. Especially the burning on the handle. I wish this website had a 'thumbs-up' symbol...you'd get three from me. I guess you'll have to settle for my avatar pic.

This is probably going to be one of my next purchases. I have a ton of swords, but very few melee weapons. I think this one is a must have.

I love the smell of warhammer in the morning! (Just did some burning, it gives the warhammer a je ne sais quoi I missed before!) ((ok, it's evening here))

Yah I am the same, I have about 20 swords, but lately, I have gotten into hawks, hammers, spears, batons, etc, I have yet to get a mace though, which is on my list
