Not exactly "other Asian weapons", but we don't have an African subforum, so.....
Anyway, African weapons and swords are cool. Some of the most unusual and crazy weapons have come out of Africa (shotel, mambele, etc.). So, I'd like a book that is (ideally) a comprehensive dictionary of sorts with nice high quality pictures. Failing that, I'll take any other good book on African weapons - though I'd like pictures of some kind, even just line drawings.
Checked Amazon, came up with zip. Not a single book dedicated to African weapons of any kind.
In other words, sort of looking for the Oakeshott of Africa. Far shot, maybe, but if it's out there I'll probably find out about it on this forum....
Please and thank you very much!

The best 3 I know of: ZirngiblWerner Fischer, Manfred A. Zirngibl, African weapons: knives, daggers, swords, axes, throwing knives, Prinz-Verlag, 1978 books.google.com/books?id=DJwsAQAAIAAJSpringChristopher Spring, African arms and armour, Smithsonian Institution Press, 1993 books.google.com/books?id=5CUSAQAAIAAJTirriAnthony C. Tirri, Islamic and Native Weapons of Colonial Africa, 1800-1960, Indigo Pub., 2007 books.google.com/books?id=Z4AaAQAAMAAJTirri is a very fat coffee table book. Zirngibl and especially Spring have a lot more information in the text. There is also a series of books by Arbousse-Bastide; I haven't read these: sites.google.com/site/belloafrica/See also: www.vikingsword.com/bibliography/africa.html

Thanks Timo - knew I could count on you. Any idea where I could buy a paper copy of these?

Spring is fairly easy to find 2nd-hand. There are sub-$20 copies on Amazon and ebay.
Tirri is harder to find, and often expensive. At the moment, I see one expensive new copy on Amazon, and one expensive 2nd-hand copy on ebay.
For Zirngibl, the same. One expensive copy on Amazon.de, and one expensive copy on ebay.

Today, one of the most bang for your buck offshoots is the CS Assegai short shaft spear, which is simple, intuitive, inexpensive, versatile, and a great option (nearly unbeatable) for under the bed bladed protection.

The CS Assegai is on my shortlist of weapons to buy. I actually tried the same spearhead the Windlass Assegai uses... Not exactly my cup of tea. I like my weapons a little more robust.
