So... I'm looking into Kali. I think I want to learn it. I really like martial arts, but I wanted a martial arts that also taught knife fighting. So here I am looking into Kali. I want to buy a book on Kali. Yes, I know I should get hands on training, but I'm going through school right now and so I'm super busy. So I'm looking for a book that can teach me some Kali. And also, some videos would be great too. What do you recommend? Thanks!

Never really found FMA books any good to be honest. There's just too much movement going on to describe in a book. And way too much embellishment.
For what it's worth the best one I've found was Modern Arnis by the legendary GM Presas, but the pics are really blurry, and Modern Arnis is somewhat outdated.
I think it's better to look at youtube (doing research on the instructor so you know their background) and judging for yourself the effectivity of the techniques against resisting opponents.

Hmmm. Okay. I'll take a look at that book, thanks! Do you have any personal experience with which youtube instructors are good?

Here are two videos involving a pinuti, the knife I chose and have no regrets. Sorry I don’t know how to post the URL without getting the video. If someone out there can tell me I would appreciate it.

Btw, getting into a knife fight with a blade practitioner from that region would be akin to fighting a wood chipper. I'm currently looking at 3 or so blades at TFW.

Kali is great and really accessible in the United States compared to HEMA. Just to give you an idea, I live in New York and there is only 1 HEMA school within 30 miles of me. Kali on the other hand has 10+ locations in a 30 mile radius of me. If you live in the US than you probably have a Kali place relatively close by that you can check out. Not sure on membership prices but it would probably be more than a book. Unfortunately I do not know of any book to recommend you.

One thing I might add to the second video: starting at mark :046 the instructor demonstrates a cut which can easily be used as a takedown or both. A similar move is used in stick fighting. But there I was taught an additional step that could be used with the knife to give a double whammy. Place your foot on top of the opponent’s while using the stick/blade. WARNING, IF YOU PRACTICE THIS WITH A SPARRING PARTNER REMOVE YOUR FOOT BEFORE HE GOES DOWN. If not you will rip the tendons and ligaments in his leg making it useless and your partner will probably not want to play with you again, even after healing. In the street... your choice.

Not that I want to sound like one of those masters teaching Quai Chang Caine in the Kung Fu series...gulp...Grasshopper.

That's Presas Modern Arnis, so it's at least decent. Video quality is a bit grainy though. One thing that Modern Arnis lacks from my perspective is an emphasis on largo (long range/distance) use of the weapon. They have a lot of corto and medio (close and medium distance) drills but if you have a weapon on you that's around 28 inches long, I don't think you'd really want to stay within punching distance. Just my observation. But as a foundation, it's definitely one of the best.
