It looks like Windlass is starting to make an early basket hilt (though in typical form, they have mis-labeled it as a "late Scottish broadsword"). Its possible this is a relative of the Mary Rose sword Mr. Kelly posted about a few weeks ago. According to Reliks, they have it listed as "coming soon". From the available pictures, the guard looks like its built of stury material, though may have some concerns about it being undersized (difficult to tell without a scale). The blade looks to be in the 4mm range, but for me thats a secondary concern next to the guard www.reliks.com/functional-european-swords/late-scottish-broadsword/

They've had this at ACC for a while, I made a topic about it along with their 1803 blade and Kusanagi sword.
I think it looks pretty cool, and a nice break from the usual regiment style broadswords.

There are a few threads discussing this sword as overweight. I'd wait until it gets specs at KOA. More than 4lbs is a bit much. If we compare KOA specs for the Windlass mortuary, that one seems heavy, just as posted at Museum Replicas. myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=35688

I purchased Windlass's Mary Rose cut and thrust 1540 sword, sold exclusively from Windlass Steelcraft UK. Spec are in range. If that is the case the proto basket may have a painfully small basket. I can use the sword, but have to use my heaviest buff gauntlets to keep the basket from binding my knuckles. Windlass used a similar blade on their sidesword with crosses engraved on the blade. Very heavy sidesword. Think I'll let somebody else break trail this time.

Too bad about the weight. I'm looking for a good basket-hilt/mortuary sword, but over 4 lbs. is too much for me.

Ah - had not noticed. Too bad - though it still looks nice for a project at the very least
I am excited its coming to Canada - we can use its overweight basket to protect us from the polar bears (seriously though, not having to pay international is a big plus)

I do have my doubts about the weight. It just doesn't make any sense in my mind how they'd get it up to 4lb, but we just won't know until someone gets one in-hand.
In either case I would definitely consider it as a display piece. The guard looks really nice.

I can easily see how they can get a basket up to 4lb. It all starts with the basket and pommel, they're to big and heavy. To get the sword to have some what of a good balance they barely have a distal tapper to move the POB further from the basket. The pommel should be hallow, I wonder if this sword has a hallow pommel.

The pommel on my Windlass Munich is 0.9 pounds alone. Solid steel. Good for ending someone rightly, but not so much for handling. It moves the PoB back for sure, but weight is still weight. The Munich of course is not the same as the basket hilt, but it illustrates the large effect pommels can have on weight.
