The quick fix I did was to put metal shims tightly between the blade shoulders and guard. After that, Used some nice and thicker leather strip wrap to go around the base in a rectangle. Just super-glued it on. Still think I will put it out in the garbage but at least it is functional. Seriously not even sure you can put a sword in the garbage here........Might have to give it to a co-worker who does not know anything about swords but likes them...... Wow. That's extremely disappointing. It had the makings of a potentially fantastic budget sword. For it to be undercut by something as silly as this is ridiculous. It was a good looking sword that I was thinking of buying, but not anymore. Might be worth the project though. If you really don't like it, don't pitch it. I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands and try to fix it

I would not have removed it from my sword but the thing was very loose on the flats sides of the blade. When I saw how unsubstantial it was, thought it was just a afterthought kind of thing. Had I known there was a gap, I would have just glued the sides back on. As it was, it pulled off in pieces and could not be glued back. If they had used something like on the Marshall sword, it would have been fine.
Yeah - many folks have shown an interest to get this thing if I get rid of it.....lol
I like most everything that Hanwei makes except for a couple entry level medieval swords. I even like the Marshall sword with the spacer and it has never given me any problems. Even with that gap, they could have made it a permanent piece of hardened plastic or such.

But I'm the only one willing to give it back.

I notified Blake of the problem and asked him to address the issue here. I believe he will be responding shortly. I really hope this issue gets resolved. I'm usually a fan of cas Iberia, and I hate to see a sword with potential be detracted by such a ridiculous flaw

We'll get the next batch right or we won't be selling any more.
If you've bought one of the new swords and have any issues with this please return it. If you have any trouble making that return email me: bpogue@casiberia.com. I'll do what I can to make it right.
Blake
That's great to hear, Blake! Glad you are taking this approach.

That's an extremely disappointing flaw, but it's good to hear the next batch will have it corrected. I'd love to nab one of these, but will have to wait for the time being.

Nice does this mean any Saint Maurice you buy now direct from hanwei will be the better ones? Well, you can buy direct from us (CAS Iberia) and we only have the newer version. It's been a while since the older version with leather was released. I'd suggest if you buy from any dealer and it matters to you to ask them directly which model they have in stock. Blake
