Lets count it as anything under 250$ that you would be happy to buy again if you had to replace it

Windlass XIV but unfortunately that’s out of production but occasionally someone will put one up for sale.
Mushashi Bamboo katana turned out to be a good one.
Kris’s Pinuti. Again the Pinuti I have is out of production.
Hanwei Oxtail Doa.

I like my Ronin RK Budget Katana. Its a great project for customization. Judging by the Matthew Jensen review, it can take a beating for its price of 85$ USD. I bought mine right from the SBG store.
I am also a fan of my Ronin Dojo Pro. Fantastic sword. The Hanwei Tinker Great Sword of War should be easy to find for under 250$ as well.

We need an ongoing "Deal of the Day" (or week or month) thread for the SBG Store, like the MRL deal of the day thread!!!!!!!!!!! Someone make the SBG deal of the day, week or month thread happen, before I start swinging my war sword all over the yard! ...you don't want me doing that trust me! I just submitted suggestion to site administrator (Paul). Feel better now.

There's a few. Bear in mind that with some of these you get what you pay for, but all seem to be good values. Recommended stores to buy them from added as well.
Musashi: Multiple lines under $250. Swordnarmory. Munetoshi/Jubie: Multiple lines under $250. Swornarmory. Hanwei Practical line: Multiple lines under $250. Kult of Athena. Ronin Katana: PK Budget line. Ronin Katana. Huawei-sword: Multiple models under $250. huawei-sword on eBay. Hanbon: Multiple models under $250. swordmaker688/hanbon sword on eBay.

This Dotanuki is by far my favorite, and I had a couple of MUCH more expensive swords who's blade geometry couldn't even hang with the Dojo Pro......PLUS being 6'1 O-Katanas are easier & more comfortable for me to swing around like an Arab swordsman on horseback! Of course THEY would t have a Ronin.....but it's the mental picture that counts!

I like all of these swords for their price, they are no albion or super high end custom but they are worth their price or even more in my opinion, also note that windlass has weekly sales where there is usually on sale 1 sword per week, so it might be worth it to wait for the sword you want to go on sale on museumreplicas if u have the patience and luck is on your side, but i think that they are good for their original prices as well the windlass roven sword $245 (closeout so it might be gone soon) www.museumreplicas.com/p-300-sword-of-roven.aspxwindlass pompeii gladius $175.50 www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=500598&name=Roman+Pompeii+Gladius windlass classic hoplite sword $148.50 (not very historical but its lovely and scabbard fits great) www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=500734windlass sticklestad viking sword $220.50 kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=500670condor dadao $95.40 www.amazon.com/Condor-Tool-Knife-Dynasty-Hardwood/dp/B007MXI1HWHanwei Warlord Dadao $149.95 www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=PC1012windlass falcata $195 www.museumreplicas.com/p-219-falcata.aspxall of the windlass cobra steel line www.atlantacutlery.com/m-22-windlass-cobra-steel.aspx (best swords you can get for $60 and under and they always come sharp) Most of the Musashi line is decent for katanas under $150 www.kultofathena.com/musashi.aspMunetoshi Water Dragon katana www.swordnarmory.com/munetoshi-water-dragon-differentially-hardened-1060-samurai-katana-sword/ $109.98 Windlass Qama $44.96 www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=400164Ronin Katana RK series models 1-12 $129.95 1045 steel but its good for the price www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=RKK01&name=Ronin+Katana+Model+1Legacy Arms have some pretty decent swords, steel is alittle bit soft as stated by KoA but i've never had that issue with them, they are usually $279+ but they are very good and a couple like their gladius is $209 www.kultofathena.com/generation2.aspDevils Edge Greek Xiphos $139.95 www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=AK001Windlass Hungarian Saber $157.50 www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=501084&name=Hung.. A T-10 custom katana for $229!?! ....and it's in the SBG Store!?! NICE! Yeah, I researched for months deciding on my first real sword, the dojo pro O-katana. When I found out about the scratch and dent sale, I had to take the plunge at that price. I hope can keep it always. We really need an ongoing SBG Store "Deal of the Day/Week/Month" ongoing Admin. thread IN the forums.

The Hanwei Tactical Katana seems to be dicontinued for their new A.P.O.C.s, but some stores may have them in stock still. It's the lightest of the Hanwei Raptor blades afaik.

Windlass and musashi pretty much own the sub $300 market. Ronin and Hanwei/Tinker are a close second. The one thing to always keep in mind with the sub $300 market, with any manufacturer, is that while you can get a real jewel on a particular sword, the next person may get something less. For instance, I own a windlass sword of Tancred, great one handed sword, solid, great blade, great fittings, etc., another person has gotten one that fell apart on them, loose tang/fittings, etc. Also I've been lucky enough the buy some Musashi's and they have been the best starter katanas. I bought their $200 blue elite katana some time ago when they first came out. Absolute great katana for $200. Then about a year later I bought their red elite. Complete difference in blade quality. I really didn't like it but the fittings where ok. I bought one of their $200 T10 with choji hamon when they first came out. Another absolute jewel for the price. It has the best hamon I've ever seen on a sub $300 katana.
So, if you buy two of the same one, you might get one that's great and one that's not so great. This has been my experience thus far.

thats true never expect a $200-$300 to perform like a $1000 sword, they can be really good but dont expect it to be the same

Lets count it as anything under 250$ that you would be happy to buy again if you had to replace it The Windlass Sword of Homildon Hill. I love mine, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if the need arose. Windlass Sword of Homildon Hill--KOA--$234
