You can also try contacting Fred Lohman. I got 2 solid silver crane menuki from him (Grey Heron is part of my family crest, figured the crane is close) a few years back, very high quality pieces. I'm sure he could also do some silver plating work. www.japanese-swords.com/menuki-gallery/pages/menuki.htm

I've done nickel and silver plating on sword parts. It's pretty easy, once you get down to it. Caswell makes some good plating solutions and kits. Seriously, small plating at home is pretty easy. Cleaning the item VERY well is the magic. Check our Caswell plating for their kits... www.caswellplating.com/Thanks, jason

I thought about getting an habaki silver plated. but I wasn't sure how well the plating would hold up. the seppa's don't really get much friction so that wouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys However, I've actually decided to get a Rick Barrett bare blade instead of the already mounted one that Matthew has. Either way, I'll still probably end up with that sword though and at the end of the day, I think I just won't be happy with a simple plating job on the existing habaki and seppa. I'll most likely just have a new solid silver habaki and seppa made for it, as well as a new saya for proper fit. Unless, of course, that whoever makes the habaki is skilled enough to make it fit the existing saya perfectly. Vermithrax - I just saw your post suggesting Wally Hostetter, which is fitting (pun intended) because I just PM'd you about him doing your nihonto fittings not long before reading it.

I messaged you back. Wally can make silver habaki and anything else you need. Though I think it's usually sterling silver (90%) as pure tarnishes very fast and is SO soft.

Yup, PM'd you back. yeah, that's what I meant when I said solid silver, meaning it wasn't plated or foiled copper or brass.

That's what I did on my Barrett. Had the habaki and seppa done in silver by randy black when he made the tsuka and saya

I've heard good things about Randy black's tsuka and saya, and I actually have a James Raw blade with his mounts as well. How did he do with the habaki and seppa? I didn't know he did those as well, defitely good to know for future projects.
