I found this image a while back in a write up from Dave Kelly about Pipeback sabers. Does anyone know the source for this image? Also, any idea what sword is depicted here? It looks like a short British 1908/US 1913 Patton style of sword. Help and knowledge are greatly appreciated in advance.

Actually, I've seen a few sources online attributing this image to Captain Alfred Hutton. I haven't ever seen which manual or book this would have come from however...

Thanks for the suggestion, I actually had just tried that one. The results brought up a lot of Hutton stuff.

Net search engine has come up lacking. I found the pic online without primary attribution. None of my Hutton books, or Burton, Edgerton Castle have such an image or series.
Not worth further effort on my part.
Maybe someone else will have a brain fart.

On a side note, does anyone recognize the pattern of sword in the illustration?

If the sword is indeed the 1908, that does help narrow down the year aspect.

Could be a modern re-drawing of hutton. I keep hitting pinterest, a british hutton club, and a french HEMA blog with searches.

Nondescript training degen; 1885-1914 by the cut of the uniforms.

Is it not a cutlass drill?

Possibly. Was just looking at the sword itself. The central reinforcing plate in the middle of the bole guard looked like a 1908

Ya, the dudes on the right are wearing spurs but the facial hair and uniforms seem to speak earlier than the British 20th century.

It is from a Swedish manual, although I don't know the name of the author.

And the sword depicted is most likely the Swedish 1893. Thank you all so much!

And the sword depicted is most likely the Swedish 1893. Thank you all so much! www.schweden-kavallerie.de/Courtesy of having had pointed out, the nationality of the manual as Swedish, can now show all, the Swedish "fechtsabel" (training saber). A form established in 1886 and upgraded in 1893. And, no, the fencing degen doesn't look like the '93 sabers.
