Just like in Game of Thrones, all the best swords have names. Or at least a cool description when it comes to the katana. Via Markus Sesko's cool site, a compilation of names/descriptions from some swords from history: linkMy favorite one:

I called my sword Anna, or "my pet Anna" when I was South Africa. The Afrikanns word for car is Kat, so my pet is actually a Kat-Anna.

Right, so I only have kukris and two antique sabres, and I'm not really compelled to naming those. But when I do get my first longsword, I already have a name in mind. Tatami, bottles, and the empty space on my wall will tremble at the sight of... "My Sword". Seriously, I'll have that engraved on the blade or the cross guard

My unokubi zukuri makes a distinct sound. Almost as if the second groove is disturbing the first grooves "whoosh," so it becomes a warble. Almost like vibrato. I think, "Whistler" fits.

I named this sword "Rusea Hyanda" which translates as "Wrathful Blade" from Tolkien's Quenya language.

Just got a folded DH unokubi-zukuri sword from Kondo that actually had such decently installed koshirae that I left things as shipped (except fop polishing/sharpening, another story), and named her "Tammy". When someone asked where I got that from, I replied, "You never heard of Tammy Shigiri?"

I call mine "George."
(Doesn't matter what I call him though. He never comes.)
