So, Empire Costume rolled out a new replica AN XI here. I am kind of interested, if only because its not the Universal or CS replica - lacks the long ricasso of those other Indian replicas. Blade looks pretty beefy at the base - I estimate around 7-8 mm - definitely not the 10 mm I have on the 1822 LC, but a far cry from the 4 mm stock you get from Windlass. The grip looks better contoured as well, with the little "heel" for the back of the hand. Looks bigger than what you get on the CS, though would be nice to have measurements to back that up. The only downside to me is the guard. It looks well built, but seems squished along the width wise dimension. Also at 220 Euro its not cheap.... Curious what you all make of this new offering

I've been waitng nearly a year and a half for this thing to finally pop. Bought one friday and it may be in hand by the end of the week. The detailing and the advertised specs sound pretty compelling. Won't know till I can sit down and compare the new one to my own 1813 original. The 1802 is not a small saber. 35x1.3 inch blade. Taper and balance on it's 2.4 lbs is impressive. Not as quick as the Brit '76LC, but it's in the range of it, and has superior reach and ability to use the point.
No hint as to who got pegged to do the saber. Obviously a battle to get the specs in the ballpark.
Will post ASAP.

Am excited. From the last pic it looks broadly similar in thickness to the original. Could be promising.

This totally passed me by and I was there last night. Looks promising indeed. The bars on the new one seem to be slightly squashed and somehow the langets seem to be further apart, but that could be the camera lens. That blade looks good though and even the etche looks very fine. If this is Universal and I bet it is, then at last the quarter has dropped there. I am waiting for your review Dave!

Postal notice says it is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Friday is forecast as wet. Gives me a chance to put something up friday. :)

That's not nice, you can't making such an absolute rejection without giving details! (especially since I am looking at sabers right now)

Many moons ago I bought a modest French saber from DK. He pranked me by sending me his EC ANXI.
At the time, I had never owned a real one. When I first saw the hilt while unboxing, I thought he somehow sent me the wrong (far more valuable) saber. I panic texted him about the mistake.
When I finished unboxing it and beheld its awful balance and wonky proportions, I realized he totally got me. I could hear him laughing at me all the way from Virginia.
For a long time, I hoped to “reprank” the gift, but I since mostly stopped buying/selling/trading, and can’t pass on the lol’s.
Anyways, that’s about what the saber is worth - a mildly funny story.
