This is a very good review mate that if I didn't already own one would convince me to buy one. The only negative I can think of is no false edge.

Thanks, thedirewolf93. Getting people to want to buy it was kind of my aim. This thing is so fun I want other people to feel the love, too! Yeah, I guess it could have a false edge but I didn't think of that at the time since I've never really tried cutting with one.

Nice to see a cold steel blade that doesn't handle like a crowbar.

To bad (for southpaws like me) they don't have a left hand version.

Great Review! I am not a fan of Cold Steel at all. However, I do like this one for whatever reason and maybe someday I'll pick one up for myself. Glad you like it so much. Cheers

Cheers Ryan Yes, it is the "at all" part of people when they say they are not a fan of Cold Steel, that I disagree with, because the item selection is so vast, as there would simply have to be SOMETHING that would tickle ones fancy.

It's less the product and more the company that prevents a lot of us, myself included, from purchasing Cold Steel. Heck, I want one of these messers, but I'm waiting to see who else makes one like it.

I've heard that, whether the owner (love or hate...talk about a DREAM JOB), the sometimes goofy videos, some of the "odder" (sometimes tacky) offerings, legal maneuverings, etc..., some of this has probably put off some.

I have only good experiences with CS, two machetes and three swords of their sabers/modern military swords. I don't have one of their medieval swords or katana.

Cold Steel is just a company, a large one with eclectic offerings. I like Lynn Thompson, and some of the criticism (see above) seems a bit unfair.

I don't know Lynn Thompson or any Cold Steel employees or owners. I do know that they make absolutely superb knives. I could care less whether CS videos have crazy music and pig-chopping scenes - if I don't like it, I don't watch it. As far as business practices go, I've heard rumors but I make it a policy not to judge based on hearsay or what the media says - I don't know enough of the facts to make any kind of judgment.
Quite frankly, I find the whole anti-Cold Steel thing kind of odd.

Quite frankly, I find the whole anti-Cold Steel thing kind of odd. That just about sums it up. Quality wise, some people judge on products from 20 years ago or more. Man, they are using g10 handles, first rate steel, Tri-Ad locks, and a large variety of designs, shapes, sizes. Sure there is better stuff out there, but more often then not you are gonna pay for it. I still say there is nothing else on the market like their XL folder selection.

This is what I have currently from CS:
1813 French Saber 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber Grosse Messer MAA Messer
I did have a couple of their katana and a Viking axe. Did not see anything wrong with the katana ones but just had too many similar (Raptors/DF) and let them go. The axe was a weird thing as the haft was huge. Axe head was alright for the price. The Grosse Messer sometimes gets bad press but I like it. Not too much similar in the production sword market. The sabers are decent. Of course, CS is not a forge and contracts its products from Windlass, Fred Chen and others.

My personal view of Cold Steel was from personal experience. I simply will not purchase from them due to that experience. I could care less what people think otherwise, it is my opinion which each of us is entitled to.
As for the above review, again...it is a great review and I do like that sword. I like messer's in general and this one does appeal to me. Like another stated above, I will not purchase one due to the company but that does not mean it isn't a good blade or should not be purchased by people. I think so far from all of the reviews it has received that this is a good one.
Cheers,
Ryan

Cheers, Ryan This often happens, and from fine companies no less, where something does not go as desired (sometimes an understatement) and the customer chooses not to buy from the company again, no matter how good the products offered. There certainly is no reason for one to care what people think about that, or anything for that matter, as to each his own. I've personally had mainly good, though (rarely) some bad experiences with CS (due to quality of product or customer service) and will judge each new product (and the people dealt with) on an individual basis.
