I the film and saw the film first. Sadly even with all the book reading I do I had missed out on McCarthy (Blood Meridian OMG!!!!) somehow.
I got a copy of this book and while the movie was about 99% perfect to it, it did leave out what to me is the most revealing scene with Anton Chigurh. This exchange with Carson Wells I think is amazing. McCarthy does not use punctuation, the conversation starts with Wells:
I'd make it worth your while. Take you to an ATM. Everybody just walks away. There's about 14 grand in it.
Good payday.
I think so.
Chigurh looked out the window, the shotgun across his knee. Getting hurt changed me, he said. Changed my perspective. I've moved on, in a way. Some things have fallen into place that were not there before. I thought they were, but the werent. The best way I can put it is that I've sort of caught up with myself. That's not a bad thing. It was overdue.
It's still a good payday.
It is. It's just in the wrong currency.
Excellent!

I liked that book a great deal as well. I've read it twice, and will probably do so again. The movie was good as well(and with that cast how could you go wrong). I also saw the movie first. I hated the way they ended the part with Llewelyn. It goes into more detail in the book, which makes the scene not just not bad but pretty great, whereas in the film they just skip it and show the conclusion. I found that extremely unfulfilling, so much so that I refused to read the book or rewatch the movie for a few years. Obviously I broke down, though, hahaha. The scene in the book also screamed Coen Brothers to me, so I don't know why they shafted it like that. Aside from that, it was great.
I've tried reading Blood Meridian two or three times, but cannot seem to finish it. It's good, but the way he casts aside 99% of the punctuation like that kills me. I'll finish it eventually, but I thought No Country was head and shoulders better. I did also read The Road. Man, good but seriously bleak.
EDIT:
You know what, this get me seriously wanting to reread No Country again, hahaha.

So, I did it. Re-read it. It's as good as I remember. Thanks for reminding me of a really top-notch book.
