KoA has a new saber out. Its marketed as an infantry model, at 31.5 inches of blade. It does have some interesting aesthetic qualities, with the fold-out guard and the nice 1796-esque blade. Stats look reasonable as well - 7.1 mm to 2.6 mm. Weight is a bit high at 2.4 pounds but eh, can't have everything. Cost is on the steep side being slightly North of $250 - similar range as we saw with some of their other new WEI/Universal stock. Full details here

It does not look bad at all. Kudos to Universal. From what I find it is an Austrian Light Cavalry sabre though. The original M1827/ 37 Light Cavalry Officers sabre had a slightly more slender blade by the looks of what I found on Google Images. Also the drag is off. But there is enough material there to file out the original design. See here: www.sabres.cz/Austrian-Light-Cavalry-Sword-182737-g8510.html The price of an original is prohibiting. Bring a minimum of Euro 1100, even at auction in the UK. WOW ! It looks to be well made, just like the Princess. If that distal taper is what it says it is, Universal is doing great. Here is another view: www.vhu.cz/exhibit/rakouska-savle-pro-stabni-dustojniky-lehke-jizdy-vzor-182737/That type of drag was very a la mode at the time. I like it a lot.

The second one gives a length of ~31.2 inches. I'm surprised - my initial impressions for the 1827 were that it was too short, but apparently its within spec based on the one example. Thanks for the resources btw

I'm actually really interested in this. I'm hesitant though becuase of the rear "quillon" if you Will, I don't think it's be very comfy going down like that.

Looking at this ( hammer grip ) picture there is ample room: www.kultofathena.com/images%5CUSS196_4_l.jpg I do not think you'll have any negative influence from that backward bend beak, even with the open grip. It gives some hand protection too. Blades slip right over. Come on. Take one for the team. 8-) Edit: Ooops. This being Universal, what are the chances that a blue and gild version will be released in the near future? Like they did after what? two years? with Vendemaire? I am left with the standard one now and I do not like that at all.

I looked at the KoA page after Afoo first posted and I'm pretty sure the weight was listed as 2.4 lbs like he said. Now it says 2.68 lbs. Almost 3 lbs is way too heavy for my liking, but it is a very nice looking sabre.

In either case, its getting pretty heavy for a 31.5 inch blade and with a relatively minimalist guard. I mean, an 1822 LC comes up to 2.4 lb. The Windlass 1840 Heavy Cav comes in at 2 lb 5 oz.

Oh my bad. Never been good with the numbers! I wish we all lived in the metric world. It would be so much simpler for all of the math-impaired people like me.

Could you be more specific? Maybe I can help. The links work on Palemoon, Firefox and Chromium. Others who presumably are on I.E. seem to have no complaints. This link does not work either? theduran.com/all-articles/

Prior to that it was giving the usual "server timed out" error Thx for the info, as always.
