What I have found:
Keep the boxes for the swords if you can..........
Don't forget what saya or scabbard goes to what sword........
Don't sell or give a sword away to someone in person and dig through the saya/scabbards until one fits good enough.
See the above and when packing, you have katana, sabers and swords with no scabbard but came with them...............Had to bubble wrap a bunch of sabers, katana and swords .
Spent all weekend getting the sword room ready for the movers. Only thing left to wrap are the axes and spears.

I can believe all of these points. Unfortunately, I am well out of space for boxes, even with a nominally-small collection. Fortunately, I hope to not be moving anytime soon... nevermind going out of the country. I wish you the best of luck there!

Just hope the swords have minimal rust on the other side. Hated using the non-wood core scabbards on most of the Windlass and then rust on the pommels and guards from weather conditions and the movers.
Also used some Albion boxes to pack a few Lundemo and other customs. This left some Albion swords, all the A&A being bubble wrapped. Kept a few of the generic DSA scabbards (got rid of the swords) and they came in handy for a few of my better swords. Was able to Frankenstein some old Sarge scabbards (must not have the swords anymore) but had to bubble wrap the hilts to the scabbards as they really were not made for them.
The beat goes on......lol

Funny thing during the packing was handling all the swords. Some I have not handled much in years. Brought back some good memories and I did not handle a single one I did not like.
Many will have to go though when I get back because I will not have the space to properly take care of them.

That is a sign your collection is NOT too large though, when you can handle every single one and have that kind of reaction. But ah, space.

I HAVE kept every box for every sword I own...30+ of them (stopped counting at 30). Now i can't get into my garage because of all the boxes!
I think I may have to consider throwing away some of them....

Mr. Swiger In an effort to help you with your spac3 issues upon your return stateside, I'll offer as much space as you need in my toy room 😂. I'm still looking for a high quality single hander too.!!

Don't know where you are ending up, but if you are in the Tri-state NY/NJ/PA area and need help with the move let me know.

Moving is always a production. I have pretty much used up shipping ctns but manage to fill up what I have to pack. I just recently went through this with five dozen swords. I even reuse the styrofoam peanuts. In one shipper, I stuffed it with five large cavalry swords with scabbards in a carton that had arrived with one sword. My forty inch expedition bag layered with many of the antique swords, along with two short axes. Somehow the war hammer and ice axe didn't make it to a box or package but dang, sixty swords still filled up a station wagon pretty full. A bundle of poles (removed all heads and packed separately). Another stout carton handling near twenty of the shorter ones. My A&A German bastard, DelTin 5157 and 5160 along with two long ATrim all bundled and tied with rope to a single shoulder load.
I am a bit doomed here in not having my stuff handy to handle. They rest 20 minutes away right now. Management declared my collecting was warehousing for sales and don't accept my reasoning that it is more for reasearch and enjoyment. Looking through the lease, there is no mention of weapons except no shooting within a given distance. I f'd myself by bothering to mention the swords. I'm really tempted to just move them in.

What a mess! Saving cartons don't work for most folks. Uline and couple of other companies can accomodate with various cartons. Including expando types.
Despair for those Chinese display racks. They do great service, but are frail.
Glad it's you and not me movin, Bill. All the best in the next billet. ;)

Guy from the moving company came today to do a survey. Was surprised at the swords.......
Anyway, he said they will built small wooden crates to put the swords in that do not have boxes. So many per crate to keep the weight down. Requested the movers wear gloves when packing the swords.
Yeah Dave, those display racks are not meant to be moved much. Due to space limitations in VA, will need to come up with something else. Maybe barrels or trash cans to put them in. Have no idea yet. Just hope they do not end up with much rust.....
