I am compiling a list of swords that I have interest in, from modern made blades to customs to old Nihonto, and the blade length variation is very interesting.
24 - 30 inches. Quite a range!
At what point is a katana really a wakizashi?

23.86" or 60.6cm, going by the traditional 2 shaku cut-off. Strictly, that's not really a cut-off between katana and wakizashi, but between daito and shoto (or odachi and kodachi). But since wakizashi are shoto and katana are daito, it's the cut-off between them.

2 shaku is the cutoff. But at different points in history a shaku had two different measurements (at first it was 13.something inches or so and later at 12"; 11.93" to be exact")... by today's standard 24" and longer is a daito and 23.99" and shorter is a shoto.

Even 25 to me seems a bit small, but those are the numbers.
