It has arrived!!! First off, thanks to Matthew Jensen for working with me. I must have had him send me 100 pictures of various blades to look over. He was prompt, detailed, and great to work with. Shipping was fast and the sword was secured in a way that it could have been dragged from Minnesota to Massachusetts by horse and arrived in fine condition. Recently oiled and a nice sword bag was a added touch. Thanks! This is an Edo Period Nihonto Sword. Signed Kanemasa. I will have to take better pictures, I am a bit excited right now. This sword has some HEFT and it's super solid. The Wally Hostetter fittings are wonderful. The blade is thick and hefty, I love it. The hamon lovers may not like it too much, it's just mostly straight, but I love it. What a nice piece. Very happy and hoping this does not become a habit........ Attachments:

... I feel like I need Shadowhowler's 'Mother of God' avatar pic here now. Phew.
Normally I like a distinct hamon, but there's something to be said for those lines. Thanks for the pictures!

Not sure if that's good or bad....... Agree, I love hamons with some motion, but this is so clean and I did not have to sell my Camaro to buy it

It's very good in this case. Thumbs up. I will definitely leave the nihonto to others, and appreciate from afar, though! It looks like you got a good deal from a quick look.

Any plans for use? Or is it a safe queen?

Glad you like the sword. It is a really interesting piece with a different feeling. Very stout in the hand. I hope it serves you well for many years!

Any plans for use? Or is it a safe queen? No cutting or anything, but I plan to display it in my den.

Congratulations! Thanks for keeping us updated. It's always a pleasure to see older blades like that.

Looks very nice. I would think the hamon could be made more distinct with the right polish job (say a careful hazuya polish). Congrads! RinC

Lights off in room ( I use my den) with a flashlight; old nihonto have amazing grain of steel and the hamon is so very wonderful. Trying to figure out how to take pics.

Oh yes... nothing quite like the hada and hamon activity of a Nihonto... :) Candlelight and bright daylight are some good ways to capture pics

I've got a similar sword, it's mumei but I think it's probably a Kashu/Kaga smith, mid 17th century. The suguha hamon is similar to yours in regards to it being hazy and not well defined. I've been meaning to work on it to bring out the contrast but haven't gotten around to it yet. Too many other projects on the go at the moment! Attachments:
