I read where the Hanwei has no tang - crossed off the list. Half the models I find have fake hamons - I'd rather have none than fake - crossed off the list. Has anyone bought a nice Zatoichi style blade that they would recommend? www.handmadesword.com/954.htmlThis is the closest to acceptable that I have found but I know nothing about HandMadeSword.

Hanwei has no tang? Incorrect to my knowledge.Get one of the Hanwei. And avoid that handmade sword site.

I have two, both Hanwei and both pass the magnet test as seem in photos below. The longer one is the Blind Fury Zatoichi. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SH2267&name=Hanwei+Blind+Fury+Zatoichi+Sword+-+Natural The wood has darkened over the years. It has one menugi. The smaller sword has none and the blade is glued in. In addition that one has two pins that have been camouflaged over making them almost invisible. The smaller, or red one, is out of production and is the same type as used in the 2003 production of Zatoichi. There was a 4 part video on YouTube making of that movie and it clearly shows this sword. In fact, they had seven to make the movie. I would say that it is more of a wakizashis having a 22¾” blade. And for me works best in one hand. The movie flatters the sword. When I ordered the swords I didn’t know who Zatoichi was other than some blind man, and I couldn't and don't care less. I could well do without this one. The quality is there but it is too light to be taken seriously and smaller than I would like. The hamons appear to be from acid and certainly not wire brushed. I am not a fan of fake hamons but am more satisfied with these than any others I’ve seen. If such a hamon bothers you it can easily be polished out with a metal polish. Or just softened with metal polish. When I resharpened the smaller sword I lost much of it and am sure that I could easily remove the rest and with a little luck bring back the natural hamon using vinegar or lemon juice as outlined on this forum. The truth is I have no interest in this sword. Here is one with a real hamon. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SH1002&name=Hanwei+Bamboo+Stick+Katana Here is one with a possible real hamon. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SH2114&name=Hanwei+Folded+Steel+Zatoichi+SwordShowing magnet tests. The hamon. Both stick swords.

Excellent information! Thank you.
And that's an idea, to find one someone has lost interest in.
