My brother cleaned his room for the first time in a decade. He's spent years ccollecting all sorts of random semprini. The idiot was throwing away a eprfectly good US military helmet, probably 'nam era or a little later. I stripped it of the liner, cover, and straps, keeping the steel pot. This is the foundation of my next project. I plan to modify these into... well... anything. It's too good to let go to waste. I remember a thread, possibly on SFI, of a guy modifying a Swiss military helmet into a fantastic Kabuto. I think I might go for a more fantasy look, since it's not like I plan to use it or wear it to a renn fair. If I can find decent material, I'll either rivet or weld an extension in the back, and probably add some form of simple facial protection. Spikes, wings, and horns are also being considered. My brain automatically drifts toward combining something along the lines of Nightmare's helmet styles from the Soul Calibur series, and the Emperor's Champion from Warhammer 40K. Some riveting, welding, sanding, painting... Looks like a good summer project. Something a little different than what I'm used to, but I can't wait to get started. Guess I better start sketching... Anyone done anything like this? Or remember that thread I was talking about earlier, or any one's similar?

Several WWII helmets work decently well as kettle helms. Just flare out the bottom edge a bit more, and add a suspension liner. Works wonderfully when out in the sun (built in visor).

The entire idea was to be horrifying. I think I got as close to that as my skills and materials will allow.
Not to try to get really lucky, and finish off the final details before it's due for grading...

That helmet actually scares the s*** out of me, really nice job especially for the scare tactics. It's even crying; scary man.

Beautiful!! That is awesome, and your welds look like a very clean bead. How much time do you have in that? I can only imagine. Sweet work!!!

That is a wicked helm...I've seen a similar one done in leather but that looks ten times more BEAST.
Bill, I didn't know you were in Brooklyn man- some of my family is still there, on Lefferts Ave as a matter of fact. Gota cousin in Canarsie too...
