just wondering where everyone gets their boxes from when they sell a sword and have to ship it and what not, and what do you usually label it as to the shipping store or usps? collectibles?

It's the steel on the inside that counts.

Never get rid of the boxes you get your swords shipped to you in. I've got a stack of 'em 8 feet tall in my garage! I've heard of people labeling them as 'collectibles' and 'stage/film props', but always throw 'fragile' on there somewhere. Not that it makes any difference to the cave-man driving the UPS truck. I shouldn't have said that...those guys put up with a lot of crap......Chris

Dumpster diving. Florists. Buy cheap gun cases (and ship them in the box around the gun case). Some ship sword as flats, so any large box could be cut down. PVC tubes for katana. Some other mailing tubes work ok for katana and viking swords. A great many of my antiques shipped in the triangular postal and UPS tubes.
One can do a shopping search for cartons with endless possibilities.

Wally World. You can always go to the post office and get the larger boxes, tape them together. Turn inside out if you do not want to wrap the box in brown paper. Store dumpsters work as well.

You can also swing by any store that sells blinds. The longer blinds are packed in boxes very suitable for most Euros. Kats with their wider guard typically won't fit though.

Aside from that, you can try local Wally Wolrd (WalMart) or other retailers like Bill suggested.

Also the cardboard from rolls of carpet, strong but heavy, great for international shipping.

The dumpster behind a golf supply shop will often have some nicely sized boxes (originally used for golf bags or clubs). I just buy new boxes from Uline as it's cheaper for me to get boxes shipped to my door than spend time hunting around for used ones, but if you only need them on rare occasions, golf shops are a good bet. Obviously it's also good to save any long thin boxes you get shipped to you to re-use.
I generally label my swords as "decorative cutlery" (which pretty well describes most of my swords). Some countries have specific lists of items to choose from which don't always include "sword". So I pick the one which best describes the item and then add in "decorative cutlery" as a written description. I wouldn't think you would want to call it something too ambiguous or you might run into trouble if customs opens the box and the item inside doesn't really fit the description.
The US post will ship swords within the US without a problem, however it it's going out of the country (like with global express guaranteed)it may be transferred to FedEx and they have a policy against shipping swords. I try to never use UPS as they are notoriously bad with boxes. DHL is good for expensive overseas shipments.
