after looking at all these designs, i found none of them to be practical. they look like something out of a cartoon. i guess thats what ur into, so good luck, not my cup of tea. Though all of them have at least some basis in historical swords, the messer and backsword are literally interpretations of actual pieces. Swords themselves are no longer practical, so please explain your viewpoint. An opinion means nothing without a purpose.

I rather like the 6th one down, but if i had a slight curvature to the top edge of the blade in an upwards direction( nothing major but just enough so its noticeable), i think it would look a whole lot more appealing.

i dont know, if i got across what i ment.
what i of mean, is that these are based on real designs, but twisted into fantasy. i like some fantasy swords, but not the way you fantasize , i guess i fantasize in other ways.
i dont know , all we can really do is make up new ideas for cross gaurds and pommels, evrything else just looks weird in my mind.

I back this guy and his designs fully! I am honored to have made one of his deisgns. I feel like a jerk that I havn't worked with him more often.
HR isnt just another kid drawing wacked out video game swords. He has a great idea of what is useable and what isnt. He thinks outside the box and combines cultures to create magic.
HR whats next? lets start working on something again.

Oh wow, this thread still exists? lol.
Go for it, Matt. Anyone who wants to attempt to bring my designs to life are more than welcome to attempt to do so. Especially you guys, since it's not to much an "attempt" as it is "just another day's work". :-P

Waitttt just a min. You like in PA HR? Man I wish I would have known. I would have made you come to our hammer-in.
You gotta make it down to my shop one day so we can work on some of your designs together!
I am actually working on a big batch of pirate themed blades today for the Fells Point festival in Baltimore this weekend. Most of the blades in this batch are styled similar to how you design. You should make it down to the show Sat. if you can. If not I will be sure to take pictures!

I haven't been able to do much in months. I graduate May 2, so I'm crazy-busy. >_<
Otherwise, I'd be there.

Took a break from papers and studying. Been doodling this, over and over, in the margins of my notes lately...

I work nights. I have a lot of time to think and sketch. Also been working specifically on a simple design for BK&S, as I traded my CS saber for something custom from Matt. Needless to say, I'm giddy. To both keep his workload down on the project, as well as making it a more personalized piece, I decided to go with a slab tang that I will mount myself with ironwood scales. This is the documentation of my sketches, mostly in order, from initial doodles up to finalized design and scabbard(which I can't wait to make! I have such a gorgeous piece of hide that's BEGGING to be made into things!). And away we go! Obviously the bottom image is the finalized design. You can see several characteristics of prior sketches going into it. The sheath still needs a little work on the design, but I'm pretty damn close. Also, the top of the last image bears a lifesize rendering of the general grip shape. When drawn, it was exactly 6" from tip of pommel to the blade-shoulder. Not sure if it's perfectly obvious, but there's no curve of profile taper in the blade. The scan might make it looks like it's a TEEENY bit curved forward, but this ain't the case. Opinions? Critiques? Anyone can feel free to use or improve upon any of the above initial designs, but the finalized version is MINE! MINE MINE MINE! ^_^

Finalized design done on Paintshop. Lug on guard was simplified. A small hole added near the tip, kind of a reference to my love of cleavers. Also makes her easier to hang on my wall yet be quickly accessible. Also made her a little bit wider after I mocked up the dimensions in a plank of wood...

I thought I did... But I'm really leaning toward a rougher, solidly-utilitarian look and feel.
