Hey bros in arms. Here's another design finished. I was interested in making something with the horizontal digging blade on the other side only instead of the traditional "Pulaski" fireman's axe, I thought it might be cool to give it more of an Adz type, grubber look. Something that might be good for roots and Ice.
Sometimes the idea looks like this in the beginning. _
For this style I looked at a lot of different head shapes.

And to buck tradition further, I wondered what it would be like with solid pommel on the end
When I decided on the shape, I built a CAD model so I could spin it around and see what it looked like. Plus at this stage I was still trying to think of the best way to attach a pommel. Of course the idea came from sword construction and so I put a long steel rod all the way through from one end to the other and tied it all together with a big hex shaped Allen nut.

Thanks! Because I had a CAD file I could get a cast mold, and then it also got the crap beat out of it. Then a bunch of grinding. Then more grinding. Then some heat. The edged is left harder about an inch and half back on both blades.

It's heavy and weird.
Actually the happy accident is because of the weight behind the swing, it splits wood like a wedge. Like a bigger axe. It doesn't get stuck easy and I've split some pretty gnarly, knotty cherry logs.

Pretty cool. While only somewhat similar, people might want to check out the Ontario Sp36 sniper spax sold at Knife Center for $45. Same tool concept, but removable spade would only be good for digging and smashing hard soil, while your adz is more wood worker + lighter.
